Terraplane hood ornament...what year? *pic*

My aunt recently asked me if I knew what kind of car this hood ornament came from that my uncle had before he passed away. Well I asked around and was told that it came from a Terraplane but could not find out what year. Any ideas by looking at it? A range would be helpful if a specifc year can not be determined. Any idea how much it might be worth? I thought about putting it on ebay for her. Its in pretty good condition...there seems to be some pitting on it that looks like the size of a sand grain. Not sure if that can be buffed out. Any help is appreciated.

This is not from a Terraplane, sorry. And I have no idea what make or year of car it comes from. My advice would simply be to put it on Ebay.
  • Really? Interesting...

Anyone have any idea what kind of car it may be from?

I'll make a WAG... Studebaker Commander, maybe 46-47? One guess is as good as another..

I think that it may be from an early-50's Mercury. Maybe 51 or 52.
  • Thanks a ton for the hints guys. Dave you were very close! After seaching around on the net for Studebaker pictures I finally found out what it came from: 1957 Studebaker President Classic. You can see a pic at the link below:

Guess I'll go make a post in the Studebaker section now!
  • I backup Club Coupe thats off a 50 or 51 Mercury. Check this web site I have linked to the Mercury page looks like a dead ringer to me. http://www.lepoix.de/text/mercury_hood_ornament2.htm
  • Nope - it's a 1957 Studebaker President Classic all right.

It is definitely from a '57 Studebaker.

I was off by a decade! Goes to show ya that free advice is worth no more than what you paid for it !

Dave W. Who sold his Studebaker in 1963 and never looked back.
