    Dermott:

First, the process I described, assumed that the photo you want to post is already existing somewhere on the internet. Only then can you find out its URL (or location code), which you place in the "images" box.

You cannot post an image in this way, if it is not already somewhere on the internet. You cannot (for example) post the location of the image in your OWN computer. It must have been uploaded somewhere to the internet.

I was wrong when I said you had to GO ADVANCED. If you click the POST REPLY button, you'll see the

insertimage.gif icon right on the "quick reply" posting form. No need to open the super-dooper posting form.

However, you CAN take a photo from your computer and directly upload it here. This is a bit more complicated, PLUS the upload feature here at Classiccar only takes photos of 97kb or smaller. You WOULD click the GO ADVANCED button in that case, but it is much more complicated. Plus, you would have to learn how to open your computer's photo program, and then reduce the size and complexity of your photo until it gets down to 97kb.....and THAT's another story...!
  • Lets have some more on this subject, did I or did I not see a while back someone had found a way to get a regular size pic posted ? Sure would help us DUMMIES

Uhh... yeah... you are pointing to your C: drive...

    Guys....

Here is a checklist for you to consider when posting a picture...

    1) If your file name has C:\Documents And Setting\ or F:\ or any other letter followed by a colon and backslash, it is not on the web.

    2) You need a server or home to host your pictures. There are multiple services that offer this for free or reduced prices. Photbucket is the first free one that comes to mind. I assume that you will have a file on your Desktop (you know, your computer screen) when you have an established account somewhere, you will ave some kind of upload prompt, that you can point to the file on your desktop (or other associated storage folder) where the picture is located. After it is uploaded, the service provider will give you a long URL (or address on the web) where your photo is located. It should begin with "http://www. (something after this... and it will have numbers and letter)" this is the planet, country, state, county, township, city, and road, where the picture is located in cyberspace. It is very important when posting a picture to duplicate this address, exactly, when you wish to post to an online forum such as this place. It's like the post office, but with super tight precision.

    3) Once you establish a URL (you know your "http://www.heresmypicture/hudson/cool/jpg.com") your set to use the forum function here...

    4) Click the square box with the mountain and sun scape in it, above the box where you type in your message. It will ask you for a http:// here is where you put your URL in. I suggest copying and pasting it, to be sure of accuracy. Once you are done, PREVIEW your post, it will show you whether you got it right or not.

Let me know what else we can do to help!

    Best!

really, at the end of the day, if you guys cannot figure out how to post pictures, it seems there are a few of us that routinely do it on the board here. I know Rick and me both have our own dedicated server space, and have done so in the past.

There are two "free" places where you can upload your photos to the internet. Then you can post them here by merely referring to their location code, or URL.

    The two places are:

    1) Classiccar's "Photo Gallery" (go to top of this page, find the Photo Gallery button, and press it). There, you'll even find a special Hudson section with subsections in it.

    2) the H-E-T's photo album site, at http://groups.msn.com/HudsonEssexTerraplaneBulletinBoard/_whatsnew.msnw . Here, you can start your own "album" and clump your photos together (unlike the Classiccar site). There is a limit to the amount of 'space' you can take up, however, so be sure to keep the resolution and photo size low on the photos you upload.

Both places require a simple registration, which involves giving your e-mail address and inventing a password for future reference. Be sure to write the password down (I keep a cheap notebook with the hundreds of passwords I'm now supposed to remember, for example).

You CAN upload photos directly to your posting, here at the Chat. However, there is a limit of 97kb and to attain that, you will have to go into your photo program and 'tweak' the photo in size or resolution, until your file system indicates that it's 97kb or less. To upoad, hit the GO ADVANCED button when posting (not the POST QUICK REPLY). Scroll down to ADDITIONAL OPTIONS. Click the MANAGE ATTACHMENTS button. When the little window opens, click BROWSE, then find and highlight the particular photo in your computer's filing system. Then hit UPLOAD. Then continue to type the message into the posting form, and your photo will appear under it, when you finally post.
  • Lets try this once again...
