I am getting ready too put in my overdrive tranny in my Jet. I am also putting in a new clutch, etc. Is there a clutch aligment tool that I can buy at a parts store that will interchange with a Hudson Jet clutch?? I don't feel like wrestling that heavy overdrive!

Thanks, Barry Smedley:rolleyes:

  • YAH? Try wrestling a 13 speed !! Only tool I ever saw was wood and did'nt work all that well. A spare input shaft works best. On the big trucks I used to put the parts on the tranny input shaft then slide it in place and put the p-plate bolts in. Don't know how that might work on the wet clutch tho, have to look at it. Call me.

The jet is a dry clutch. I've done one before, don't remember it being too tough. It seems like I used an off the shelf clutch alignment dowel. With the car on lift, the whole job took an hour or two. This was a non-OD trans, it was light enough I could lift it myself.

    Good luck,

    Matt
  • HI MATT, Yeah Barry called on the dry clutch, I Did'nt know that . Gonna help him a bit. He has'nt got it out yet. Is the pilot bearing a bushing or ball bearing ? Got some vibes to get rid of . Thanks, Bud

The pilot bearing is a bronze bushing, make sure you lube it before you put the transmission, otherwise it may squeal as you engage the clutch. A smear of anti-sieze past eshould do the job. the "eye-ometer" is usually good enough for aligning the clutch plate, but best tool to use is spare input shaft, if you can find one. I agree, those o/d trannies are very heavy, but nowhere as bad as the earlier single-lever units. You are best to do it on a hoist, or a pit, otherwise jacke the car well up, and get a guy either side to lift th e tranny up into position.

    Geoff.
