Couple questions

1. Where can I get my steering wheel restored. Not a full restoration but it is a little ratty and needs to be spruced up. I have all the parts I need.
2. Can I pop one of those 45,000 volt Flame-Thrower coils in without causing some irreparable problem?
Car is 1946 Coupe 8-cylinder?

Jim,
What are you running for ignition? I tried to run the 45,000 with my pertronix and burned it up. The ohm resisitance on the 45,000 is different than the 40,000 and will wipe the module out. If you are still running the 6v and points, I don't think it will be a problem. I have been running a high volt coil on my 51 Ford with 6v and points for years with no problems.0 -
I'm 99.9% certain it's as it came from the factory. 6 volt system and the coil looks like it's 61 years old. Runs like a top, it does.
I'm just aching to do something that will jazz it--like an Isky cam or stroker crank. A lot of this is mental, I'm afraid trying to recapture the 50's.
I probably should just sit down, take a couple of ritalin or a very large whisky--or both.0 -

if it runs good, then maybe leaving well enough is the best route....

If you want some speed parts, take the time and find something cool, like a finned edmunds head for an 8cyl, or an edmunds intake for the 8, they are HTF, but the wow factor is worth it. I'm not sure of isky cams, or a stroker crank, especially the crank, but it sure would be different.
Best of luck!0 -
A dual exhaust manifold will add some pep and really sounds sweet on these ol' eights. Cut the outlet section off a junk manifold and have a reputable manifold welder put it onto the rear half of your original. The second exhaust pipe presents some routing problems, like preserving access to the fuel pump, but the final result is worth it. Sounds like a strong V8, then amazes folks when you raise the hood and they see what's really there.0
