Carb.Float Valve & Seat ?

Just wondering if seating the valve to seat is done for a better gas shut off ? If so would this be done with a very light rubbing compound and the best way to do this or just leave it alone ? Thanks, Ron P.

new valve,new seat, don't fix it, not broke yet but probably will be if you mess with it.
