  • Finn, I really don't think your going to find a ready made drop spring, not enough market for them. That leaves cutting or heating what you have, got to be carefull not to over do it with either. Better to take a little at a time till you get down 1 1/2 inch even if you have to do it several times to get there
  • I HAVE A DOZEN SETS OF WORN OUT COLLAPSED SPRINGS WITH OVER 100.000 miles on them that lower a stepdown one and a half inches to two and a half inches, come by, i will give you a few sets, BILL ALBRIGHTS VINTAGE COACH, FONTANA, CAL

    Hi Finn,

Just about any coil spring manufacturer has a way of building springs to spec.

I did a quick google of "custom coil springs" and found many many hits like this one...

    http://www.coilsprings.com/antiques/index.html

So - I'd shop around on the internet or locally for a spring maker and see what they can do for you.

Bill Albright's offer sounds like the real deal!

But if you want to spend money for 'new', you might try these folks:

  • Have you checked with Fat Man Fabrication, he made me a set of droped spindles for a 36 Desoto and does same for mustang front ends etc. His adds are in all the street rod magazines.
  • You could try Coil Spring Specialites 785-437-2025, they are manufactures, tell them what you are trying to do, they should be able to help. Costs are in the $120 to $ 150 per pair. Lou Cote

detroit eaton springs. 2' drop 2-3 day shipping cost should be $150-$160
  • The old rule of thumb, 2.0 inch drop for every 1 wind of coil cut off.Use a saw instead of a torch though. Make sure you have clearance, even if you have someone sit on the car, look under and measure with weight on it. Another alternative smaller profile up front will work. I dont know if you have a street rod or something appearing original, makes a differance. Hope this helps you.
  • Just remember from my previous post that you do not have a lot of travel in the front of these cars, less than 3 1/2 inches if you drop it 2, you will only have about 1 1/2 inches to work with unless you cut down or remove the snubbers on the lower A frame. Have Fun Lou Cote
  • so if you cut off about an inch off the snubbers that will help, those snubbers are pretty good size.
