I spent last week hangin out with Mickey Mouse in FL, but made a trip up to Ocala to see Don Garlits' place. Lucky for me they had their drag Jet sitting in the aisle and I was able to get some good pics of it. Too bad I couldn't get under the hood.

  • OMG, I bet that would be a fun car to drive around in. I've seen pictures of it before, but never as much detail. If I ever found a 2 door jet, It would get a 308 for sure.
  • Thanks for the pics royer! Who says a Jet can't look bad @ss!
  • If anyone wants the original JPEG's, let me know and I'll email the files to you. They're really clear pics, but the file size is huge.

For those who would like more pictures visit my website. Sloane was a friend of mine too and as Bill says he had other demons that were not known even to those close to him. The car was placed in Don's care due to the consistant badgering of Don by Kelly H.. Sloan knew how to light up a Hudson engine... check my site to see his article on how he built the engine in the car you are viewing. If you look closely you will see that the intake manifold is split and Fish Carbs are mounted. The last time I saw this car run it blew the doors off a Duster being campaigned on behalf of the US Army. A consistant winner that did not break. Kelly and Sloan took the best of all advice and made the car a winner. Like lots of other folks I miss Sloan and Kelly.

Royer - I'd like a copy of your file photos for my "Jet" info collection.

Don's place when it was small and not very well known.

I hope to build one like this to have some weekend fun with. Been collecting

parts for a long time. Just hope its as BAD as this one was!

  • i was wondering how i missed this thread the first time 'round, it is about when i moved house.

after going to the nostalgia drags last weekend ive got those ideas stirring again... id thought that a jet coupe with an aussie chrysler hemi 6 (300hp+ potential NA) would be fun to drive. the class that looked the most fun was V/GAS (pre 67 gas powered sedans/coupes/ commercials) the rules suit a combo like a jet with a stout 308 in it well. one to put on the someday list i guess

It would be great to get an article on this car in an upcoming WTN!

I saw this Jet in 1992 at the Garits museum when I attended a Hudson meet in Wildwood, Fla, just down the road apiece. The Hudson meet was hosted by the Whitacres. What a great weekend between the great Hudson folks and the museum.

My wife and I traveled from Rochester NY to visit friends and relatives and to attend the meet. (no I didn't drive my Hudson)

Think of how well this car could run now with some of the technoligy we now have.

It's interesting to see the checklist on the dash.
