Time for a POLL number 2
Okay, this poll is to rate the best transmission option in your hudson to the worst, least desireable....
Let's see where we end up....
pick your favorite, and we'll see which one comes out on top. Even though it isn't my favorite, I think the Stick w/OD will come out on top...

Kid,there is alot of open air here. You need to ask for what use and what it is hooked up to??.Gasoline at over $3.00 a gallon and probably never going back down:eek: ,a stick-o/Dr trans. will probably get the best MPG,depends on how it is geared.Hydro's are easy, but there is alot of slippage with its operation, and at slow speeds[in town driving] they tend to jerk and have harsh shifting,as a NORMAL operation-I think that this was also a complaint with the Hydro-maybe someone can reply to that also-Walt,Gus,Lou,UJosh,Park,Etc...,.A stick with O/D.,can be put into 2nd.gear,and using 2nd.O/D,to obtain a little faster speed,it kicks in and out as you need it??,and then add a Vacuum clutch[HDM/Supermatic]this makes a sweet combination.0

All logical and good points"ClutchGuy", but do old car owners really care about gas mileage. I'll bet the average hudson owner cares more about how his car looks and performs. You know this one is going to come down pretty evenly split between Stick/OD and Hydramatics (which were the best of their time)0

I For 1 Don't Care For Stick/od I Think A Straight 3 Speed Trans With A 307 Rear End Does Just As Good A Job As The Stick/od Trans With Alot Less Moving Poarts And No Wiring And No Sellonid Or Gov. No Kick Down If I Need A Lower Gear I Go To 2nd 2nd Is Good Till About 45 Mph And 3rd Is Good To 70/750

After my experience with the OD, so far... I think maybe you're on to something here, Paul... a lot to be said about that wiring... and they're heavy...0 -
I didn't see (or I missed) the 700r4 w/323 sure grip...:)0

I'll take the 3 with OD and I put the KD switch by the clutch so I don't have to floor it to kick down. Just for fun, I can run it up through all 6 speeds. I like the 4.56 with the OD as you can just leave it in 2nd in town and use 2nd and 2nd OD.0

It is true about the hydro, but I picked it, because it just feels & says old car to me. All mine were good, no problems. Gas milage was good. I have built rat rods, hot rods etc, all with newer engine and trannys, but never miss the feel of that old hydro under me. lol0 -
I picked the Hydra, it's the only tranny I have experience with in a Hudson. I have driven lots of different trans in other cars but so far only one Hudson. I also have to think that if Clifford chose to race with a hydro it can't be all bad.
