'49 Hudson "full color" model questions
About a month ago I picked up an original Hudson "full color" (versus the demo version which is one half clear plastic to show the interior) 1/16 scale 1949 plastic stepdown model at an antique shop "deepintheheartatexas" for what I thought was a fairly reasonable price. The model appears to be in very good conditon for its age despite the white paint stains on the roof and one rear bumper guard that's half broken off. There's little to no warpage of the frame or body. Two questions I have regarding this model. First, I noticed that when I looked inside the front seat, I see that there's no steering wheel attached to the dash and nor is it loose rattling around. Did these models have a steering wheel? And lastly, the tires are loose from the hub caps (the hub caps attach to the metal axles). Does anyone know of a safe glue to use on this older plastic? I know that you don't want to use plastic "model airplane" cement on some older plastics as it will destort it. Thanks to anyone familiar with these models! Dan

I have the same one. No steering wheel. I wouldn't glue anything. Just put it on display and enjoy. I wouldn't risk the damage. If you must, I would use a dab of silicone rubber. Niels0

I have the green version.
A crucial consideration is keeping it away from heat as they are very prone to warpage.0 -
Thanks for the information regarding the steering wheel which apparently was never included in these models and the suggestion that I leave well enough alone with the wheels/hub caps and also keep it away from any sources of direct heat. Dan0

John,
The antique shop where I bought it had it priced at $59.95. I talked them down to $48.00. I believe it's worth a bit more than the price I paid for it.

Dan , great BUY! I paid $300.00 two years ago for mine, and was happy to get it, on Ebay.

There's someone presently selling the "demo" version on Ebay with a "Buy it Now" for $2000.00!!! He's also open to a "Best Offer". I've been watching this particular model on Ebay for over a month now and so far he hasn't sold it. Seems this stepdown model is more common than some people think. By the way, here's another photo of my model next to an all metal 1/43 scale travel agency/ticket office model of a Delta Airlines Lockheed Constellation. Both models where made in 1949. Dan0

I got mine a couple years ago for $600 ish I think. Excellent condition. I see them sell for alot more than that.
All these models were made on a seperate assembly line in the Hudson factory (true). Afterwards, Hudson sold the molds to the Marx toy company and they made toy Hudson cars: A police car and a fire chief car.0
