    I remember some months ago there was a thread on a 6v alternator in a generator case. Not sure how to search for that, but it looked interesting. I know some of the rodding sites advertise retro alts, so a web search should find something.

    This is a good source because they specify positive-ground 6-volt alternators. :cool:

    A word of caution, if you are useing an idiot light the one wire alt requires some extensive other parts and wireing to support the light. best to get the 3 wire one . If useing a gauge must use volt meter, not amps.

    Interesting thread. Three questions:

    1. Will the AlternatorParts 2-wire alternator work with the GEN light?

    2. Where is a voltmeter that reads as low as 6 volts available?

    3. Have you used the AlternatorParts conversion kit?

    The 2 wire should work, however ,these 6v alts are rebuilds from 12v cores and you need to check with the supplier as he is the only one who knows exactly how he has it set up. I got a gauge from Peerless Electronics, it's about 2inch wide and 3/4 inch high, flat type rather than round, real neat looking gauge you can put in dash or under. Had to rig my own light for it as it's usually used in bench equipement and does'nt have one. Don't know anything about any "conversion kit", that's likely an alt someone is calling that they sell to go from gen to alt. Again, check with supplier before you buy.

    Did some research, if you use the light you need the 3 wire to avoid doing some more comlicated things to get the light to work

    If however you are stuck with a single wire alternator, I have designed a circuit that will operate the light. You need two relays and a zener diode.

    YUP, it works too, Geoff and I worked on this for days to solve it. I kept throwing the bugs at him and he squashed em !! I now have both the light and voltmeter
