Compressor parts.

I know this is not directly Hudson related but since I use my air compressor to work on my Hudson it is partially related to this forum. I have looked both at parts houses and online for this part. I need a 6 groove 2 inch pulley with a 5/8 inch arbor, it fits on the electric motor of a compressor.

Newer compressor have gone to a V belt system. Maybe the computer guru's with the ability to run better searchs than me can locate one on the internet, or if I am real lucky some one has one laying around they do not need.

Actually I am being cheap. The pump went bad on my compressor and instead of buying a new compressor, I picked up a running compressor with a bad tank. Along with the compressor with the bad tank the seller threw in an extra tank and a compressor pump. With all the parts I have I am trying to make two running compressors out of three broken compressors. That is if I can find pulley.

Thanks in advance.

  • At an auto parts you can get the 6 groove serpintine idler pully or being we have such KNOWLEDGEABLE? parts guys nowadays, or the tension pully IF you can make them understand what you want. Be sure it comes steel and not pot metal-- Hardware or farm supply get a 5/8 center hub and weld it to pully. I"ve made several oddball setups this way. Will say I do have a lathe to cut the pully center to fit the hub--Then there's always the junk yd for pullys from old cars you could redo to your needs. That's where us REALLY CHEAP guys shop !
  • Go to the harbor freight web site, look up parts and order it. I will see if I can find it. I needed a new 5hp w/1" shaft for my compressor... got it for half price, delivered the local store free....:)
  • Hey, wait a minite here, thats what I m trying to do with the Hudson, make 6 into 1....;)

    Hello,

Yes I did. Their smallest is 8 inch diameter.

There is a possiblity it is no longer made because of the conversions to a V belt on the small compressors. The original manufacture Melben was bought out by Campbell Hausfield, but they do not show a listing either for this pulley.
  • Sometimes we overlook simple answers, have you considerd changeing the pully on the compressor ?

I have considered it. If I can not find the small pulley I probably will investigate the large pulley and changing to a V Belt system. This extra compressor has an old pump, the cost of the large pulley may not make this conversions practical.

It was an off chance that may be some one had an old compressor motor laying around with a spare pulley.
  • Any full line hardware or farm implement will have pullys with or without the center hub and the hubs. Not very expensive or I sure would'nt be useing them, can make up any combo you need if you buy seperate parts
