Oil filter kit-8-cylinder

Aesthetics and originality notwithstanding, is there a modern oil filter kit available that could be fitted to a 1946 8-cylinder engine or is an original one the better option.

Perhaps I asked the wrong question.
I have been told that a PCV valve has been used on other Hudson engine applications and this keeps the oil clean.
Has anyone installed a PCV valve on an 8-cylinder engine and, if so, how did you do it?
Thank you,

Jim,
It's been years since I owned an eight. I do recall having a factory type oil filter in place. I was advised to take it off. As it was installed, the oil to the rear main would be obstructed by the resistance to flow from the filter. After looking it over, I agreed with the old time Hudson mechanic. I took it off. I doubt it would be a problem unless I forgot to change the filter occasionally. I don't have a filter on my 262, I just change oil frequently.
As to a crank case vent valve..You are correct, They do help keep moisture from building up in the oil and contaminating it. I have tried using them on several pre' PCV engines. The problem I encountered was getting the mixture calibrated to make up for the vacuum leak. (The valve allows air to enter the intake below the carb, therefore leaning the mixture.) The idle mixure was easy to adjust, but the high speed mixture was a bit more complex.Without some good exhaust gas anylizing equipment, I was unable to satify myself that I was not going to burn the exhaust valves. I'm sure it could be done, with the proper diagnostic equipment. I did install a vent tube in place of the valve cover road draft pipe. I connected it to the air cleaner which caused a slight "vacuuming" effect on the crank case. The oil filler cap provided the inlet air. That was on a well worn 262 that had noticeable blow by. It stopped the embarrassing smoking from the road draft tube. Again, frequent oil changes will compensate for the lack of the PCV . I'm sure you will hear from some owners that have retrofitted a PCV valve. perhaps they had better luck or skill than I did.
A search of this forum should turn up some discussions on the subject. I seem to recall this being brought up in the past.

I don't recommend using any type of PCV system on a "splasher".The term splasher is exactly what it is!!! These Hudson engines are totally splashed, and the oil pump only fills the upper splash tray, thus these engines DEPEND on a constant dense mist of oil on all parts that do not have a trough feeding them lube.Putting a PCV on this type of engine will starve oil from much needed areas. If you have never looked, try warming your splasher to operating temp, then raise and hold the RPM's and then look down the oil fill hole and look at the solid mist,I think you'll be suprised at how well this system really works.I know there are alot of critics about splash lubrication, but I have had very good luck with these engines. They do require more maintenence than some other engines, but I feel it is worth it.0

Agreed if you put a pvc valve on your splasher say goodbye to it now. Change the oil every 1000 miles its much cheaper than the new engine.0

as much fun as an 8 sounds, I think i'll stick to my 6 with pressure lube...0

The original vent system is as good as it gets for an 8, even though it might be unacceptable to the modern environmentally aware group. The breather tube in the valve chamber creates a slight vacuum in the engine as the car is moving, and prevents pressure build-up,, as well as drawing moisture out. Because it vents from the valve chamber, it ensures that there is an oil mist in this area, which is not very well lubricated.
