Jim, factory (dealer) replacement engines did not have numbers stamped on them. Upon the installation of one of these in a car, the dealer was supposed to stamp the car's VIN on it. A lot of these engines are '55 production, identifiable by dipstick bosses at both the rear and the center of the left side of the block. Bad news is they're not the hard chrome alloy material; good news is they have the much improved rear main bearing seal.0

ok I'll have to have another look at it, definately no number where it should be. The rear bearing cap is a big block that lifts straight up ( with engine on a stand upside down that is) and has some kind of felt seal on it. The crankshaft itself has neoprene seal on it.
Its has twin h0 -
Does the Twin H have an integrated balance tube or an external? may have a 55 or 56 replacement engine there.0
-
hi Sean, its got the external tube. Might be a replacement engine then. BTW are you back home yet?0

No I am still in Brazil being subjected to sunny days at 30 C oh how I pine for the 2 feet of snow and below zero weather of home ....oh yeah LOL0

Hi all, Just an update on this engine....I found a portion of the block that sticks out past the head ( almost even with the thermostat ) on the top forward drivers side that has a number. That number is SF8408 and the car I pulled it from is a 54 Hornet sedan with s/n 7295989 model D. Does any of this make sense to any one?0
-
Yes that is a dealer stamped serial number for a replacement engine. I would be interested in a picture of the top of the block with the head removed....0
