Progress with the Hash
After I got both carbs working I ran into another problem. It seems once the car warmed up it didn't want to start while warm. It seems the timing was off by quite a bit. I put the timing light on it and got it back where it belonged and the car starts warm or cold now. I'm not sure why having one carb off so far effected the timing and maybe it didn't, maybe in all my crawling around in the engine compartment I moved the distributer. The Hash timing calls for 0-6 degrees UDC. What the heck is that. I know what BTDC and TDC are but UDC doesn't make sense. Right now I have it set at 2 degrees UDC and everything sounds good so I'll wait until I can get it to Bill A's to see if that is where it runs best. Once again thanks to all who helped me with that carb issue.

UDC stands for Upper Dead Center aka TDC Top Dead Center.0

Mars55, that is what I've been told but it doesn't make sense when all the manuals before and after said TDC. I can't figure out why they would change the terminology for one year. And why such a wide range? I can see 0 degrees UDC or 6 degrees UDC but 0-6 degrees UDC just doesn't seem that accurate to me.

The terminology started in 1948 when Hudson switched to UDC on the sixs and eights from TDC. The reason there is range in timing is so you can adjust the timing to fit the octane of the gas you are using. Modern gas is so much better then the gas they had in the old days, so you can set the timing at the fourth line without any problems. As aside I had a '60 Austin Healey Sprite where the timing instruction was to adjust the timing to the point there the engine run the best. No timing marks or timing light.0

Mars55, a much better explanation, thank you. I am on the second line right now and the car started every time I tried it today. No heat lag. I may move it up to the forth line after I've driven it for awhile and after Bill tunes it for me I'll probably leave it where he sets it. It felt good to drive the car today after having it down for the last few weeks. I think I'll drive it to work tomorrow. Thanks for the information.
