'54 Full wheel covers
Back on the subject of cars.I have a problem of keeping the caps on a couple of the wheels.Have tried prying the cleats out on them with the same results, come off??.I was thinking about lining the inner face of the rim with a piece of duct tape.Any suggestions to correct this problem would be great!!Sombrero's flying thru the air is not a good thing!!

dunno, but I heard if you can spray the rims with some paint, or if powder coated, some clear coat, and put the caps on when it is still tacky, It helps a bit more. give it a shot.0

In past posts this problem was addessed and if memory serves me, the answer is: The full hubcaps were installed on rims that have a metal stop welded on to the rim surface where the cap cleats engage. The stop prevents the cap from sliping on the surface of the rim. When the caps are stationary on the rim they do not fly off due to centrifugal force.0

54 Rims All Have Two Tits Welded On Either Side Of Valve Stem Hole. This Prevnts Full Caps From Rotating On Wheel And Popping Off. Just Take Your Wire Welder And Build Up A One Eight High Tit On Either Side Of Valve Stem Hole. Problem Solved, Bill Albright0

Had the same problem with my dad's car right after we bought radials for it. Silicone between the hub cap and wheel is a quick fix. After seeing Bill A's post I wonder if the tits got worn down or something in the tire changing process.0

There is a difference where the high spots are on the Hornet and the Jet wheels and also the wheel covers. I was a long time finding why I had 2 covers would not stay on my Jet Very easy to see the difference. Just look at the valve stem hole on back side of cover and you will see.0

The rims actually flex and I have noticed the noise coming from the hubcaps with the car moving ever-so-slowly on my garage floor.
The guy who had this car before me put silicone all the way around the inside of the rim; apparently then popped the cap on and let it dry; one came off one day.
I have gone to '79-'89 Chrysler (5th Ave, New Yorker,,,,) 15" wheels that don't flex, plus there is room to add the disc brakes; 2 PROBLEMS SOLVED!

I am looking to purchase 2 full-size Hudson, solid SS hubcaps.
Pls send me a PM with details.
Thanks,

Please note: You will want to state whether you want the spoked hub caps for a full size Hudson, or a Jet. They are not interchangable. Different style wheels on the two different chassis.

Are the Jet lug holes' pattern different than a full-size Hudson wheel?
Does the Jet have 5 or 4 lugs?
Thanks0 -
The Jet uses the same bolt pattern as the big Hudsons, but the wheel design is quite different. The Jet wheels are offset toward the center of the car, and the big Hudsons are more of a standard setup similar to Chrysler and Nash wheels. For some reason, when the independant auto makers decided to build compact cars, they seemed to feel the wheel centerline had to be closer to the center of the car than on the full sized cars.
