FYI

Everyone knows the importance of 'pre-lubricating' a rebuilt motor before firing, and 'just in case' someone does not have a pre-lube method for Hudson here is what I use... A homemade 'Tool' bolted to the cam before installing gear & chain by....

cutting a thin piece of metal the same OD as the front of the camshaft, (similar to a large washer) using the cam gear as a pattern, drill 4 holes in the metal 'washer tool', (3) 3/8" holes to bolt to the camshaft & (1) 5/16 or 3/8" hole in the center of the metal washer. Put a thin headed bolt in the center hole & locnut (or double nut), then bolt the 'washer tool' to the Cam....

Pour in 3 - 4 qts of oil & ensure all oil holes are plugged then rotate the camshaft (& oil pump) by turning the 'center bolt' with a socket about 250 revolutions or until oil ozes out the lifter holes and front cam brg.

I usually prime with a ratchet before installing the valves so cam is easier to rotate but I have primed afterwards too. Once lower end is pre lubed continue with the assembly...

Please note that this will only work on 6 cylinder engines from '48 onwards.
