pic of 50 Pacemaker just bought
I just rec'd the title of this 50 Pacemaker I bought last week. Bought from the third owner that has had it for the last 20 plus years. It has overdrive and a rebuilt engine, with 12,000 miles on the rebiuld. It runs and drives good, smooth and no noises. It needs paint, tires and carpet. It had a visor but the elderly woman that owned it took it through a car wash and it was ripped off. The visor comes with the car, but needs some work. I should have the car delivered within the next few days, depending on the weather in Co. I will post more pics after I get the car. I am anxiously awaiting!! Richie.

Thanks Dave, I have been looking for a two door for some time now, finally found one. I will enjoy it I'm sure. Richie.0

Wow, how did I miss this one, Richy?
Where in Colo?
Oh, and right now weather sucks, trucks are going nowhere, I-70s been closed (west of Denver, in the mountains). Hang tight, man.0 -
Good looking car Richie! Congrats. I'd forget the visor if I were you. Those things just buffet in the wind anyway. It looks good and sleek without it. Just my opinion, of course.0

Hey Denverslim, I don't know how you missed it, it was about 50 to 70 miles outside Denver. I found an old ad on the net listed by some small car dealer, I guess. I read about the weather being bad, I'll just have to be patient. Richie.0 -
Thanks ArkieJazz, I'm not sure about puting the visor on, my 49 Super Six doesn't have one. I will have to think about it. I think they look good, might be a problem trying to see a stop light if you were the first car in line. I'll have to see how badly it is damaged, then decide. Richie.0

Dave, the guy I spoke with seemed pretty honest about everything. He maintained the car for the lady that owned it for 20 years. He said the doors shut like a new car, overdrive works perfectly, drives quiet with no wind noise. He suggested I have the radiator rodded out as it leaked and was repaired but not rodded out. Besides tires, paint and carpet that was all it needed. I believe all he said and I am waiting patiently. Richie.0

66patrick66, I don't know what "ZD" indicates, an area? You probably know. I'm not exactly sure where the car was stored. The woman and her daughter were listed on the title as the owners. The woman lives in Pine, the daughter lives in Conifer and I think the car was in Bailey. Hows that for a location?? It was an old ad, about six months old I believe. Richie.0 -
Richie,
It sounds like you have yourself a fine car there, one with an interesting history. It seems like a little time, effort and money will get the paint, tires and carpet up to your standards. I've driven Hudsons that range in condition from restored to one foot in the grave and I can say they are amazingly tight, quiet cars. As far as the radiator is concerned, it might not be a bad idea just to have it recored.

Thanks Dave, I hope it is as good as it sounds. I will do whatever it takes to make this car nice. It will not be a show car, it will be a very nice daily driver as are my other old cars. I drive each one at least once a week while driving the 49 SS every day. It is the best riding car. The radiator will be repaired properly. We plan to drive this car to Canada this summer and maybe back out to Denver to meet the previuos owners. Richie.0 -

My pleasure Richie! I hope the car turns out to be what you expect. I agree, it's no fun having cars that are so over restored you are affraid to drive them. If you are going on road trips in your Hudson, you should consider joining the HET club if you have not done so. In addition to other club benefits, you can take your club roster along and contact a nearby member if you get stuck. Most will be ready, willing and able to get you and your Hudson safely back on the road. Of course, taking along tools, fluids and a few key spare parts are suggested too. Let us know when you get the car. I'm sure you'll have questions and will want to share more photos. Dave0 -

Dave, I joined the H.E.T. Club last Mar. right after I bought my 49 SS in Feb. That is a good idea about taking the roster along on long trips, I will do that. In 2006 I drove my 47 Plymouth on a 2,500 mile trip and took along many, many spare parts along with tools. Actually there were no issues at all. The Hudson rides so much better it will be pure pleasure puting a few thousand miles on it in one trip. I am looking forward to long trips. I will post more pics as soon as I can. There's not much a 64 year old guy gets excited about, but this "is" one thing that I get excited about. Richie.0 -
Richie, Great to have you as a member. As far as the roster goes, sometimes even just contacting a member by phone and asking a question can get you out of a bind, help with directions, etc. It sounds like you're a seasoned car guy, so you'll probably do better than someone who is not. I like your idea about visiting the previous owner of your 50 Pacemaker. I bet you could gather some interesting info. It's critical to always have goals and things to get excited about, especially as we get older. No rocking chair on the porch for us!

Thanks Dave, I will carry the roster in the glove box from now on. It would be nice to meet with other Hudsonites along the way if it was convenient, wouldn't want to just barge in. You are right about the rocking chair !! Richie.0 -

Thanks Mark, I'm planning on terrorizing Don Coatney as soon as I get the necessary things taken car of, (tires etc). I don't have any side pics and I also don't know if it is a Brougham. I'll just have to wait and be surprised I guess. The vin # starts with 50A. The guy I spoke to called it a deluxe some of the time and a 2 door sedan and also a club coupe. So I haven't a clue. I just want it !!!! Richie.0 -
from what little I can tell of your pics, its a brougham. Loooong back window.
Which is cool, not many of them around to look at.
Let me know when you terrorize Coatney, I'll try to get into the fray. I'd like to see Don myself.

Hi Richie. 50A prefix on your serial number makes the car a "Pacemaker Deluxe" model "500" is standard Pacemaker. Looks like it's a two door brougham too. I had one but it was in an accident:

At any rate the pics show my replacemaker 50 Pacemaker sedan and you can get an idea of what she looks like with a visor and decide for yourself. Mine is on my icon too. She's dark pearl green metalic. Pacemakers are fine Hudsons to drive regular especially with a OD0 -

Aaron, thanks for your information. I had an idea that it was a Brougham, but not totally sure. Your Pacemaker is beautiful, great paint job, I hope mine looks that good after it is painted. I can't believe you walked away from the accident in your Brougham, amazing that you survived. Besides being very lucky you were driving a very soundly made car. I will have mine repainted the correct color so it matches the original interior. I haven't decided on the visor yet. This car will be my drive anywhere car, I am really comfortable in my 49 SS. Thanks again, Richie.0 -
I actually prefer driving the short hooded Hudsons over their larger counterparts. Don't get me wrong, I love them both - but the Wasp just "feels" different, snappier at the steering wheel and stiffer in the curves.
They have a little tighter steering ratio, and that missing section of wheelbase may be the difference. Very good cars, you are going to love yours I'm sure.
