Autolite distributor applications
My 53 Hornet Twin-H has the Autolite IAT-4009B distributor. Recently, I picked up a IAT-4009A unit and IAT-4203A unit really cheap. Both should clean up pretty good. Will either of these distributors work in the 308 Twin-H? It would be nice to carry a spare on the road. Thanks and best wishes. ArtS

They will fit, the differences being in the rate and amount of the centrifigal and vacuum advance.
IAT 4009A-- 1952-53 early 5B, 6b, 7b
IAT 4009B-- 1952-53 late 5B, 6B, 7B, & 5C, 7C
Pacemakers use IAT 4009 Exact specifications for centrifigal, vacuum advance can be found in Hudson Shop Manuals

PS, my information comes from the National Service Data book that was published in about 1954 as it contains info from all makes from 1946 through 1953 This publication was considered the 'Bible' of information back then. It also contains factory part #s for coils shocks, carbs, etc, etc. Of course it also cantains all specifications on engine, tranny rear ends etc. Plus has seperate sections that deal with tranny's overdrives, steering, more.
The book is 12" long by 9' wide and is 31/2 deep and has 3150 pages of information. I got it when I was in the service and it was being discarde to make room for the new edition
Oddly, I was looking in a Motors Manual from 1958 that also lists the IAT 4203 PLUS AN IAT 4202 series distributors bing used beween 1951 and 1956 in the six cylinders
The Hudson service manual for 1948 -1953 shows theIAT series distributors and the specs on page 6-20 -
My old Motor's Manual shows that a IAT 4009A fits "51 -"55 6 Cyl. It also shows a 4203A, But it's a IGT ('41 - '47 6cyl.) It would look differnt. I don't know if the MM is real accurate. Norm0

Hudson Colleagues: Many thanks for the prompt and detailed replies. I will go ahead and clean these up and re-fit with fresh points and condensers. Seems like they will work out OK in a pinch. ArtS0

Hey Alex: I clicked on the URL you provided and was brought to the Hudson Band web site (Scott Hudson, et al). Seems as though your tech site might have been crossfired in the wild and woolly WWW! :eek:0 -
