  • George; that is a nice looking car for $8000, what year is it?

    Harry
  • that would be a '50, the only year pacemakers came with the older 48 style front (though with a slightly changed grille)
  • Is the front bumper a little high? No room for the turn-signal/parkng lights.

Also, is the crome in the top of the front fenders optional?

I think you may be right about the turn signals... I don't see them...

As far as the fender rockets, they might have been dealer add on, or maybe this is a deluxe... who knows...

I think this thing would have looked better in all red. Price seems fair.
  • It doesn't need front turn signals in California, all you have to do is hold up your cell phone so it shows your hands were busy so you couldn't signal and everyone knows it's okay. I like that car, two tone paint and all.

I love the "low-down, in-the-dirt" look of a 4-door. Nice car, it would look good along side my 52.

I hope some body can tells us for sure. My Deluxe does not have them. And my mother-in-law said they were not on it new in 1950.
  • Greetings from Colorado!

I sent Julie an email asking for more details about the car. She might not pick up her emails on the weekend...

I have not personally seen the car so know nothing about it. We'll see what information we can come up with.

The fender-top ornaments were often sold by dealers as part of special trim package to jazz up the low priced series. At that time they could be purchased from the dealer's parts department for a couple of bucks each, and most dealer's labor rate was under $5.00 an hour - so figure it out - a pretty inexcpensive way to make the Pacemaker look like a Commodore.

  • I don't think it matters anyway, even if it was never something a dealer did, it is Hudson and it's a custom little touch an owner might do on their own. I think it's a nice touch that adds to the cars appeal to me.

  • You have to remember that this was 1950 and Pacemakers came in two flavors. The standard and the Deluxe {500 and 50A] . So it may have the Deluxe package. The Deluxe is a rare model.

My 50 P sedan is a standard, not deluxe and it still has the fendertop ornaments. But it could've been added later I don't know. Deluxe had more trim though and a few more options inside and out like optional backup lights. What was carried over from '48-'49 on '50 P's was the rear window.

Some people prefer the fact that the Pacemakers have less trim though, a smoother body.
  • Information update:

I spoke to Julie in Denver the other day and she provided the following information:

    Year: 1950

    Miles: 71,133 - speedometer works

Engine: Flat head six - the number "500" cast into top of head?

Trans: 3 speed on column - possible overdrive - unidentified switch to the left of the column.

    Electrical: 6 volt

Factory radio - turns on & hums only

    Lights: All operational

    Horn: operational

    Gauges: fuel/temperature - inoperative

    Heater: operational

Uphostery: Original, covered with custom velour seat covers

Window glass- R/R pass window cracked - remainder good

Bumpers: front bumper "tweaked" - rear OK

Accessories: Windshield visor, front door window visors, headlight visors with Hudson logo emblems.

VIN: Evidently, the vin plate was removed when the vehicle was painted and is no longer available. Julie has had the vehicle inspected by the Colorado State Patrol and they have "verified" that the serial numbers are correct. Original ID number is : 50A82337 . Colorado has issued a new ID number for the car. Julie is waiting for them to call and will then return the car to the State Patrol and they will affix a new Colorado ID plate to the vehicle.

Julie says that the car runs and drives wonderfully and is well mannered.

She says that , unfortunately, someone has decided that the car looks better with some scratches on the right rear fender.

Once again, I have not personally seen or driven this car and know nothing about it except for what Julie has told me.

Asking price has been lowered from $8000 to $7200, motivated seller.

Julie is currently having problems with her email as they are revamping the business web site. The best way to contact her is via telephone. She has an answering machine and is prompt in returning phone calls.

The "fender irons" on the tops of the front fenders were standard on the '50 Commodores and optional on the Super Six and Pacemaker series. There was also a trim package available for the Super Six and Pacemaker which included pork chops and stainless mouldnings for the doors, quarter panels, and front fenders.:)
