55-56 Flywheel
We need a 55-56 wet clutch flywheel ( they have 1/2 bolt holes for the crankshaft and I believe they are a little thicker. AMC made them so you could install 55-56 engins in 54-48 Hudsons ( oil clutch)
Had one years back and somehow lost it. (like so many other things that i have had )
Please Help. Thanks Rudy

Thanks Ken, For the help. Pal Rudy0

Rudy,as I recommended to Bob,it is probably easier to start gathering up the parts[51-54]crankshaft.It doesn't take that long to install it.He said the engine was freshly done and not installed??.There is a picture of one on my website, but the picture isn't very good.It is much thicker and does not use a spacer. The one pictured had not been reconditioned yet.Other descriptions of this 55-6 flywheel are,the pilot bearing has a snap-ring that holds it in place.Good luck-DW:)0

like this???0

Doug,
I recommended that they go with earlier crankshaft yesterday on the phone to them. Would only take 2 hours to swap if that.
Randy0 -
I would think that a flywheel as such would be a little bit more common. Are they actually that hard to find or, dare I say, *rare*?0

Randy
I said to call you!!.I have only seen the one that I just did and it was on the engine when it arrived here.I do have a dry type for a 55-6 that I might try to convert someday.I am going to guess that the wet 55-6 type is REAL RARE,and if you do find one that it would be very expensive!!! I believe, like you, that he needs to obtain the 51-54 crank and start making it happen.I guess that it is possible that someone has one but and might let go of it??.0 -

I refreshed it a few times, still looks fine. Try holding the shift key down while hitting the refresh curvy arrow on your browser navigation bar. It is still there.0 -
Doug,Randy,Hudsonkid, Someone else must be looking for one also and you said that you talked to Bob about the clutch.
We locals are looking for one also as is Bob.
Thanks to youall for the help and the Pictures.
Thanks so much Rudy.0 -
I find it odd that more than one person could be looking for the same specific, peculiar, part at the same time. For sure, I would want to contact Bob, and share notes, at a minimum. Is he on the forum? Is he a club member? Maybe Randy or Doug have Bob's contact information, to share. I would think that Bob would have left that with them, in case something turned up.
If nothing else, best of luck to you guys!
Hey, did anyone contact Ron Fellows? he might be able to help, I don't know, he does clutch stuff, maybe he knows of a flywheel, or someone that has one. Just a thought.0 -
Yes that is the case Hudson kid, I dont know Bob ether but, i will contact Ron Fellows to see if he has on.
Thanks Rudy0 -
Those dished centre 55/56 swap over flywheels would be a piece of cake for someone with a lathe and a mill.
Question. Was there an equivalent dished centre flexplate for the Hydramatics?0 -
No,the Hydra-matic uses a spacer that moves it out about 5/8th's.The flywheel for the 55-6 auto trans also has 3/8th's bolts for the torus cover, not 5/16th's,and of course is configured to fit the flange of the 55-6.0

Thinking about it I guess that makes economic sense. It would have been a small and uncertain market for both varieties of adaptor.
To make a dished centre flexplate would have required a substantial press tool investment. OK if you know you are going to sell tens of thousands.
The dished centre flywheels would have been made maybe 100 at a time by someone set up to make flywheels.0 -
I have one of those flywheels which I don't need. If you want to buy it, get in touch with me.:)0
-
Arkiejazz I will buy it. Thanks Rudy.0

Arkiejazz,i sent you an email and a pm. Thanks Rudy0
