I need the porkchops that terminate the side trim at the rear on 52 Hudsons.

Does anyone remanufacture those?

I seem to recall that a long time ago, someone was making porkchops and fender rockets and maybe other parts. I think he was from Florida(?) and used an alloy called zamac (or something like that). They were not show pieces (had small pits and the lines were sometimes rounded, not "sharp"), but they were ok for a driver. I seem to recall that they get polished up and look similar to chrome. The advantage was that they were cheaper (at the time) than trying to replate an original pitted part.

I haven't heard about it in years (15 at least) and just wondering what the story was or maybe I just have a bad memory!

I'm glad to hear that Bill A. offers them and I'm sure they must be of a very high quality.

Anyone do any of other trim peices (rockets, spears, hood ornaments, center piece on the hood w/the plastic emblem, wiper bezels, etc.?

Yes. He was in Florida and was a Jones ( not Sandy). I think he passed away shortly after starting this work. Made lots of parts good looking headlight bezels for 46/7 among other parts
  • I just go to the local Hudson meets and take what I need from all those great cars! LOL

The price sheet that I have from June 1,1993 from COPALMAG REPODUCTION PARTS. To order C. R. Jones 1640 S.E.3RD St. Silver Springs, Florida.

The 52-53 pork chops were $95.00 per pr. The fender lights 41-47 wired for park and turn were $250.00 per set. 41-47 head light rims$100.00 per pr. Along with about 30 other items.

C.R. Jones and Wesley B. (Sonny) Jones were both at the Hudson meet in Chattanooga a few times. The reproduction part Sonny had made was the a.c compressor bracket.
  • Thanks for the replies. $250.00 is a bit steep for my blood, I'll jsut have to make some myself.

    Thanks,

  • to have a set plated, or even find a set, $250 is pretty great deal. Bill's stuff is pretty darn nice.

I personally like finding NOS chrome when I can, I like the softer look of NOS chrome, If you make a set, or cast them, maybe you should share your results with others. I think if someone were to cast these out of something like aluminum, and get them polished, they would look decent. I would like to see your results.

If nothing else, find a pair that needs some work, like some light pits, etc... work them by hand, fill them with putty, smooth them out, and have them sand casted. I bet they might look decent enough.

Also, no one asked whether you were looking for hornet commodore or wasp....

I just bought a set from Bill for the convertible. Only difference between the re-pops and the originals are that the re-pops are milled, not cast and are probably 4 or 5 times heavier than the original thin stamped ones. Chrome is outstanding and visually no different. Of course, used ones are out there and most can be repaired, but will not "shine" like these plated re-pops.

Anyone priced chrome-plating lately? The cost of metals, particularly copper, which is the first coat in a triple plate process has lately skyrocketed. Thieves are running amuck stealing copper pipe out of new construction houses to sell for scrap as copper has become quite the commodity.

Cost of all chrome on the convertible, less than 18 months ago, re-plated: $5500.00
