Frame question
What's the best way to repair the frame where rust has eaten through the rail that the rear spring shackle is attached to? I had never closely inspected that part of the frame, but it has hole in it so big that a mouse made a nest in it. I have a friend who is master welder, but if there is kit or something out that is designed just to remedy this problem, I'd like to know.

My website has some instruction on frame repair that deals specifically with the repair of the area in question. Go to this link and you can download and print the instruction. To my knowledge there are NO replacement parts or kits to do this task. One other forum poster from California had the same problem last year and he used a donor rail from another car to correct his spring hanger frame failure.
Good Luck

Ken,
I'm having trouble logging on to your website. I even tried logging on to your main page (which I have saved as a Favorite site) and still can't get through. My browser keeps saying that either I'm not on the internet (which obviously I am) or the website is malfunctioning.

Ken,
Ignore that last post. I clicked on the website address on last time and now have a copy of the instructions you mentioned. Thanks.

When your friend the master welder goes at it, make sure you have the spring attached at the front, with the Shackle properly secured in the spring with the bushing. (left hand threaded on the left side), and the other end of the shackle in what was left of the frame (or a replacement) with a bushing.
This will ensure the frame piece will be welded at the proper angle.

I'm the guy from CA that Ken mentioned. I had the same problem as you, but through the great people on this forum and the the Hudson club, I got it fixed quick, easy, and cheap. You can use the search tool and type in "scary ride" and / or "a less scary ride" and see my postings on the repair. (The posts were from Oct. '06 through Dec. '06.) I have had no problems with the repair since doing it. I think there are some before and after pics. Ken's website has helped me a lot too.
Good luck,

My welder and I have agreed that we were going to leave the shackle and spring in place and weld angle iron to it as my rail doesn't look nearly as bad as Terry's. I've just got to clean off the undercoating before he'll start. I'm not versed in posting pictures, so I'll just have to tell you how it turns out.

Jason... Your car and your repair decision... I would just offer the following... when ever anyone asks me how to check for frame integrity on a Hudson, I offer the following: Get the car off the ground and using a stong lamp illuminate all areas of the frame. At the same time using a sharp awl, probe the frame rails side and bottoms every 2 inches. This process will expose the true integrity of the frame... good luck with your repairs.0

Thanks Ken.
I did probe the area that's obvious, but I'll do as you suggest.
