1936 Terraplane fan belt

Anyone know what the fan belt size is for a 36 Terraplane?

I looked up the size on the web at the "Gates" site they only show a belt for the eight cylinder are they the same as the six? The belt that is on it now is to skinny, when I double clutch and rev the engine it squeeks on the pullys.

  • My 37 Terp. has a gates 551 belt i think.
  • I'll measure mine up tomorrow and get back at ya, Ironman...
  • I think all the 3x5 motors 36- 47 used this same belt. Not alot of options to choose from back then.

In a pinch, just contact Dave Kostansek. He'll have on in stock.

If you're adventurous try the following (they are supposed to fit 1937's, so should probably fit 1936. But verify before buying).

    Dayton VX-6 or VX-101

    NAPA 25-11450 or 11500

Dayco 211B (or it may be 2HB....can't read my own writing!)

    Gates 551

It's not just the diameter of the belt, but the width as well. You get a too-narrow one and it's gonna slip way down into the pulley and do bad things.
  • Thanks everyone, This is like "Hudson school", I learn something every time I log in,

  • I just put one on my 36, the numbers on the belt are as follows:

    Gates TR24449 Green Stripe 17A1140
  • I like the 551 Gates belt because it does look original where the tr24449 green strip belt is just that it has green stripes on it kind of heavy duty belt which is ok . Either one works .

The Dayco part number for All '36 Hudsons fan belt is a 24450. This is the cross to a Gates 551.
