trim question

Got to take off the trim on the right rear quarter (54 cpe) just above the right rear skirt, as that part between the skirt and the trim has a nice long rusty hole to be filled. Some people say to pry off the trim from the clips. Easier said than done, however from what I can see with the clips, they are rustbuckets. Wouldn't it be better to knock the clips off, and then get them off the trim after everything is loose. Now to put it back on the new clips,
t looks like to me that the trim peice is slid on from the rear towards the front of the car. Am I making any sense?

Grandpa. The best way I have found to get the trim off a Hudson is with a paint scraper. Red Devil is a good one. Soak the strip with a good penetrate and hook one edge of scraper under the bottom of the trim and pry off from bottom.0

Warning, Dont Pry Anything, If You Want To Reuse It, Soak With Wd40 And Get A Dull Putty Knife Start From Either End And Using As Hammer Drive The Putty Knife Between Retainer And Stasinless, If It Digs In Go To Bottom And Use Same Procedure, The Worst You Can Do Is Gouge The Retainer In A Few Places, But The Stainless Will Come Off Straight And Undamaged, Have Been Doing It That Way For 37 Years, Good Luck, Bill Albright0

Bill A:
Did you get my query about the ohms of your tank sending unit?
Does the trim go back on by sliding it on the new clips, or by pushing it on bottom to top over each clip individually?0 -
no ohms indicated on sending unit, but works on 6 or 12 volts. i use a rubber mallet and hook the stainless on top of the full llength retainer and strike down on stainless while keeping it pushed to retainer with other hand you can hear it popping on as you continue about every 4 inches with more blows., being careful not to hit it too hard thus prevent denting the stainless. it takes some practice, bill albright0

Dave...Just found this WTN article... thougth you would enjoy seeing it.

I've got a 41 sedan that I will have to install the stainless on eventually. Taking off was a pup.[ I used wd40 whiched helped alot.] I'm doing a frame up resto so I guess it was a little bit easier removing. Most of the clips are toast. I do see a hudson source where I can get some new ones. It looks to me that the trim slides on starting at the beginning and on to the next clip and so on. Is this the correct way . It just seem like at some point it would scratch the paint no matter how careful you are.
Any info would help Thanks,

Does Not Slide On, Place In The Correct Position And With Back Of Stainless Sprayed With Wd 40 Strike With Soft Rubber Mallet And It Will Pop Right Back On, Bill A.0

Ken:Thanx for the pic
Bill A and Friends thanx for all the input.
Taking off the trim is an experience believe me. I didn't realize that the clip was the same length as the trim. Because there was so much rust the trim and clip came off in one peice, and the screw holes came out bigger. Plenty of WD40. I got the trim and clip off in pretty straight order. Got the clip out of the trim with plenty of WD40. Cleaned all the rust off of it, and I feel it's resusable. Will spray it with Eastwoods Rust Encapsulator. Going back on will be easier per Bill A's instructions. The trick is WD40. Now I know what the other clips look like on the rest of the car. Are we having fun yet?0 -
I've tried to post 2 X but by the time I get ready to post they log me off0
