1951 Hornet Sedan Parting Out

Yesterday removed the entire front clip. I don't want to misrepresent anything about the car...The engine looked good I didn't hose it down, it does have dust/powered dirt on it however welcome surprise; no water marks of blow head gasket etc, pretty clean looking, also checked the oil and for some reason owner must have changed oil (when and why I don't know) because it was real clear without traces of water? I've had many Hudson's but I don't remember if '51 Hornet had oil filter; this one does. My objective is to recover some of my money ooverstate my findings, however I only want to give other members the benefit of engine details. Car speedometer has 73,998 miles? I believe the hydramatic must be single range, it had N-D-L-R only, other that what I wrote I don't know anything about this titlelist car, only that was/is Parhump, NV. If anyone member close to Las Vegas area interested, I'd appreciate hearing from you, if you send me your email address I can send some pictures I took. Car also has many good sheet metal, some stainless trim, front suspension and rear end parts. I'd hate to see good usable parts scrapped; I'll keep car for a while before bring to recycle yard, see a couple pictures posted.

  • Comment On Your Clean Oil, Previous Owner Probably Did Not Change Oil, What Happens When Engine Sets For Years And Years, The Dirt And Impurities Settle To Bottom Of Pan And Oil Appears Clear, Have Run Into This Many Times, If You Start Up The Engine And Activate Oil Pump You Will Suck Up All The Dirt And Oil Will Be Dirty Again In A Minute, , Been There Done That, Bill Albright

With your years of experience; explanation makes good sense, however exterior of this engine looks good, dry, and void of any water or oil stain leaks around the head. I am sure there is another logical explanation for dry look, I don't intend to use engine just was passing my findings onto any interested member, who may have needed inexpensive but unknown engine condition; it's a pity dry desert car, frame and engine etc. at a later date will be scrapped.
