Pics of 1950 Pacemaker,what engine ??
OK, I took some pics of the engine in hopes some of the more knowledgeable guys on here can identify it. The block is somewhat wider than the head, hope you can see that in the pics. The tag on the carb says 776 S. Whatever the engine is I'll be happy with it. Car needs some work, but that is what I enjoy doing. The car came with a kleenex dispenser under the dash, and a red can for the storage of one headlight and assorted small bulbs. I'd never seen one of those before, pretty cool. Thanks for your help. Richie.

Richie - Does the engine happen to have a horizontal rib about an inch & half above the oil pan flange running from the front of the block to the rear. If so, it pprobably is a 308 block, however I was not aware that the narrow block heads could be used on the later model wide engine block. If this is the case, yes, I'll bet it is faster than the Super Six.

No Jerry, it has no rib close to the bottom. Richie.0

Richie - Ok, another assumption. It appears the steering column could be from a '54 Super Wasp. Could it be someone transplanted both a warranty replacement 262 engine and the steering column and wheel from a 1954 Super Wasp? The standard HP of the single two bbl carb Super Wasp engine was advertised at 140, which was considerably more than the 123 of the '48-'49 Super Six. Also note the control cable for the Overdrive option under the dash (to the left of the sterring column). To my way of thinking - the ideal setup for a Hudson!

You do indeed have a later model 232 or 262 engine in your 1950pacemaker. Yes -- you can install the 1950 head on a later (1951-1954) wide block but you will have reduced cooling and so people have reported water leaks.........I suggest you locate a 1951 Pacemaker or later Wasp head for your engine. I also noticed that your car has a later steering column and steering wheel...... I think it looks good! I have a 1949 Super Six 4door with the stock wheel and it's a bit plain. Jerry, all that is possible, but I'll never know. The old gent that owned the car for 25 plus years passed away quite some time ago and his widow has taken care of it since. Wish I could trace it back to when the changes were made, but that won't be possible. I'll just enjoy what I have. Richie.0

Question, y'all....is the tube going back from the water pump "standard?" or is this a dealer option or a repair? I do not see it in the parts book. I like the cleaner looks of it.
If it is an option, anybody got one?0 -

Cool looking car. this one looks like it is going to be a lot of fun....0

I believe the engine is a narrow block 262 cid because the temperature sensor is in the forward part of the head. The later engines had the temperature sensor installed to the rear of the head.0

Thank you, Nick. Do you have a 51 part number for it? I only have parts book that goes up to the 1950 model year.
Anybody got one available? I have a 50 that has still is nearly original (new tires, shocks, plugs, plugs wires, rotor, cap, some bulbs - the expendables).0 -

The part numbers for the "Pipe-water pump" are as follows.
Six Cyl with single carburetor 1951 - 1954 All except Jet = 304765
Six Cyl with Twin carburetors 1952 - 1954 "262 & 308" = 307104
Eight Cyl 1951 - 1952 = 304768
Jet 1953 - 1954 = 309277
These part numbers are found in the Accessories section of the Parts Catalog.0
