I have an 'inexpensive plastic prisim view finder' bought at swap meet that works very well on my 'Stepdown' with a Visor. However I am sure the genuine 'Guide Viewers' work even better for the money.
  • They're probably worth what you pay for them. If you do routine searches on eBay, you'll see many originals made by Guide and Fulton showing up.

about 8 years ago. I bought one of the early production reproduction guide viewers, they were sucked in on the top but functioned well. I did develop some minor crazing after about a year. Even though the crazing was not enough to really affect anything, I swapped the prism with a good origonal that had a pitted base. (The parts are interchangable).

In the newer runs the corrected the gating and/or speed issues and the tops are not sucked in and don't exhibit the cracking which was probably a result of stresses due to the shrink issues of the first run. The repos come with the long arm that was used on other makes, but it is easily swapped with a ball stud off a scrap interior rear view mirror to install as hudson did it. (guide made them too).

the quality is much improved, they are a good knock-off and if nothing else you get a fresh new base (with all the detail in the letttering and parts that fit together as intended). for less than you would have in rechrome and new screws.

even with my problems, i didn't loose. I even have a decent spare base and prism.
  • I bought one of the clam shell style repro units and it is outstanding. Can't tell it from a NOS unit.

I have an original traffic light viewer . I would like to know what length

the shaft that was used on the Hudson. Length if this shaft is 1 inch total length. 1/2 inch from top of ball to built in nut and 3/8 of threads

    to end of shaft. duncan

I have one on my stepdown. I found it at a swap meet a few years back and paid five bucks for it. there was a hole in my dash from a two position switch that I never did figure out why it had been installed. It had nothing to do with what Hudson did so I took out the switch and installed the traffic light viewer. Never used it, so I guess it is for looks only and then ever once and a while some young girl will ask what it is for? That alone makes it worth the five bucks?:D
