I am recovering the seats in my 1952 Hudson Hornet and need to know how many buttons are in the seats. My guess is two in the back of the front seat, two in the bottom part of the seat. Two in the back of the back seat and two in the bottom part of the back seat. I need some help on this one, anyone have a photo that shows this?

Brownie: I won't be back home until Friday and then i can post a picture of my 52 Commodore 8, which has the same seats as your Hornet.

If I remember correctly 2 in front seat and front back, two in back seat bottom and 3 in back seat back, Middle back arm rest has one making a total of three.

If now one else gets a picture posted by Friday I will do it.
  • The buttons in mine are about 1 3/4-2" in diameter and covered with brown vinyl that matches the door trim.

    Brownie:

Did you get the answer you needed? I could not take a picture, but I did locate where the buttons go on my '52

I feel good about the information that you kind folks gave me. I have an original sales book that shows the three buttons on the commodore back seat, but they did not show that much detail on the Hornets. When I pulled my seats, the strings and hook from the original seats were still in place. I thought that quite interesting. For those of you that have seen the Salt Flats Racer, I am replacing the flower stuff that has been in the car for the past six years. I guess I should have included a photo before the first of the year. Since we are now a kinder group, maybe I'll show a shot of the old flower stuff and the new material I selected from Hampton Coach.

    Brownie:
Since 1952 was the last year for the commodore I have found very little sales information. What sales book do you have? How much information is included on the Commodore 8? How rare are they?

    Thanks

    Pat,

It is the one that was offered by the dealership. It is ten by twelve inches and shows each of the cars built by Hudson in 1952. It is in full color but the sad part is that each car is shown once and on two pages. It does give color information for each car, an overall photo of the car and some interior information. The back pages goes over the data of what was available for 1952. It shows the simulated leather and cloth that was available for each car. It does not show twin H data I expect because they were offered late in the production year (?). I have two copies, one in mint shape that I carry with my car and one that has an oil stain across about half the pages. There are about twenty pages in the book. I bought both of mine on eBay. The oil one for eight bucks and the mint shape one for forty. I have seen them a few times at meets and also on ebay. I am sure you will have no problem finding one. They are not great, but nice to have.

  • My Seats Dont Have Any Buttons On Them And I Know They Have Never Been Redone, They Must Be From A Different Year Or Maybe A Different Model. What Year Didnt Have Buttons?

The convertible and some of the coupes in the 1952 Hornet series did not have fabric in the seats. I expect that if you ordered your car from the factory you could have it delivered without the buttons. But beyond that, to the best of my knowledge, if there was fabric there was buttons. Now with that said, all is possible? Perhaps one of our knowledgable Hudson folks will clear this up for us?
