Anybody got a good PN for the 1 inch wheel cylinder used on the 40s eight cylinder cars and trucks with the 11 inch brakes?

  • Hi- Wagner #F78975 (right) and #F78974 (left) will work. The hydraulic hose or line conection on these cyls. is not like the origional so will need an adaptor on the rear to hook up to the 1/4" steel line. On the front a Wagner #F79367 hose will fit the cyl. and fit to the car as the origional. Norm

Thank ya. I ordered a couple and the hose although my parts guru had them listed for the same side. He also crossed to a Coni-seal number, with a different hose so we ordered those to check them out. Eddie is a gem. Will let you all know how it rattles out.
  • I ordered a 1937 master clylinder. I might replace all four wheel cylinders instead of just putting kits in . Anybody have part numbers for these?

For wheel cylinders NAPA # 7563 for right side front and rear and # 7564 for left side front and rear. These are expensive. You might try NAPA #9025 and 9026. I am not sure they will fit, but they are much cheaper. They are rear '69 AMC Ambassador station wagon with V8 wheel cylinders.

The Master Cylinder is NAPA # 4360.

The application of the above part numbers is 1936 to 1947 Hudsons and Terraplanes.

I was told (cant verify it) that the early 60s Ford wheel cylinders will fit. They are slightly larger than the 1" diam and apparently they will improve the braking. Regards, Barry
  • Thanks for those part numbers guys . I think i will take a look at those early 60s Ford and check them out just to see. I think they would be cheaper to.

    Coni-Seal WC13600 and WC13601 are 15/16 diameter and are around $14 each
  • You might try Dave Kostansik(sic) What you get from him will likly work and his prices are very reasonable. I tried the later whl cyl and had trouble with the fittings... old (uses washers) & new (Use compression) are differant type and the adapters I was able to get wouldn't fit( not enough room on the backing plate) on my 46 truck.. Just my experiance ... Dave solved my problem

Well, I've been thru the drill and here's the results.

The first pair of ($10) F(WC)78974, F(WC)78975s had one with a straight juice hole and one angled 20 degrees down. I had Eddie order 2 more pair to check them out and they were all angled, All had 3/8 line threads..

I tried these on the front with the ($30) F79367 hose, and also with some ($15) hoses I got off eBay with a 5/16 line thread and adapters. These will NOT work on the front as the angle puts the hex on the hoses in contact with the kingpin housing as the wheel is turned .

However, somewhere out there is a PN with a straight juice hole. The one I got was mis-labeled/boxed the same as the angled ones, but I haven't found the correct part number for it.

The angled-hole cylinders WILL work on the rear with a 3/8 to 5/16 adapter and the angle is actually better than a straight hole would be.

Next, I had Eddie cross the casting numbers (Wagner/Lockheed 2749) that were in the old cylinders I took off the car, and he came up with a Wagner F(WC)9336 and F(WC)9337. These have the straight juice hole at 5/16 but were $30 each. The good news is, I can use the $15 hoses and come out with about the same price per wheel.

These cylinders work on the rear as well, but are $20 more each.

Fortunately, Eddie is as interested in what works as I am and readilly orders and returns stuff to find out what it really is.

I ordered a master cylinder #4360 from Kenny Cordle who posts here on the forum. $50 plus $9 shipping. Eddie wanted $75 for it.

I think a big rock on a rope on the back of the truck would be cheaper!!!! :D
