Carpet question on 1950 2dr brougham

Hello everyone, I need some expert advice from you more knowledgeable guys please. I have a 50 Pacemaker Deluxe Brougham two door. I ordered new carpet from Kanter and rec'd it the other day. I tried to install it today and it doesn't match what is in the car now. I realize what is in there now may not be original. The new carpet does not come up the sides of the floor pan towards the sill plate, or along the floor between the seat and sill plate as what is in there now does. Kanter said that the carpet only covers the floor bottom, not up the sides or along the side of the sill plate from front to back. He said he thought that all those areas should be vinyl. Help me solve this issue if you can. Thanks for your help in advance. Richie.
