I'm looking for the torque specs. for the nuts on the u bolts that hold the front and rear axles to the leaf springs on my '39 (they would probably be the same from '37 to '39).

  • There are no torque specs listed in my mechanical procedure manual i would say make them tight if they are half inch 90- 100 pounds of torque.

Step-down and Jet service manuals specify "Rear Spring Clips" using 1/2"-20 U-bolts to torque down 70-80. These are the same as the '39 (including fronts).

  • Thanks Chuck!

It didn't require much torque to loosen those nuts after the jam nut was removed. I was a bit concerned because I'm replacing the old nuts with new grade 8 units.

My manual doesn't have any torque specs for it either. My Motors manual has some torque specs but I loaned out and it hasn't returned yet.

Once again Geoff answers the question that stumps rest of the Hudsonworld!

    Thank you Mr. Clark!
