Radiator repairs
In another recent thread,SamJ talked about how he has revised an old cooling system.1947 and earlier Hudsons have a non-pressurized cooling system. When you are restoring your car or just wanting it to run a little cooler-CONSISTANTLY-you should consider exactly what Sam has described!! New hotter burning fuel makes the engine run hotter,so this old design works but can work better. If you don't know the integrity of your cooling system and you are doing other engine and restoration items to your car,you should send the radiator to a known good repair shop, have it inspected, backflushed at the least and also have the system converted to pressure. Also if you are having another radiator built, make sure to have it pressurized.I'm sure there is others who can add to this and their experience dealing with cooling systems.I have some digital pix somewhere of an 8 cylinder water manifold that is custom made and was on a Railton engine.I thought it was really cool.-pun intended!!! Happy cooling

I had our local Hudson guy (Paul O'Malley) redo both radiators in my stepdowns. They were both converted to a four core. The full capacity is now extremely close to 5 gallons! My cars don't even come close to overheating now..0

Obviously on my car just getting the radiator re-cored made the biggest difference. However, you know how as you go up a long hill in an older car the temp rises and then goes down again when you go down the other side? My '40 was fine around town, but on longer trips the temp would rise under load and then not come down again until eventually it boiled. With the pressurized system, the temp does not fluxuate. :rolleyes:0
