Well let's see..... coupe, sedan, brougham? I assume it runs and drives good. IMHO buying a low mileage car from the documented original owner makes the car worth a premium.0

Just a gut feeling: I've been noting the prices of good, clean Hudson Step-Downs on Ebay, because this is where you find out just what people are actually paying for these things. And ithe magic number keeps coming up in the area of $10-12,000. This is for something that you can shine up and feel proud to put in a car show, even if it doesn't win first prize. All-original and a bit worn, or a decent 10-year-old amateur restoration with ten years on it.
Glass pretty clear with a bubble or some yellowing here or there, maybe a crack in one of the side windows. All the accessories run, mostly....or with a little help.
Engine should run well (though might need some engine work), or at least not need more than a Saturday to get it tip-top. Brakes might want a full set of shoes and some new seals in the wheel cylinders but not much more. Transmission is pretty good, body straight with maybe a dent here and there or there's a smidgeon of rust in the floorboards. Interior upholstery pretty darned good (original or reupholstered) with a water stain here and there, some frayed windlace, some fading and maybe a few worn spots or tears. Chrome is pretty good unless you get real close.
Speaking of feet, distance is how we would rate such a car: maybe a ten to fifteen-footer, if you catch my drift. To sum up, a car which a weekend's worth of sweat and polish will turn into something you're proud to drive around, and which won't leave you by the side of the road if you were to head off to see the state capital on a Sunday afternoon with the missus. In fact, you'd better check with the missus to be sure this transaction is okay....0 -
I'd say it's probably a 10-footer. Said to be "mechanically excellent" and from what I saw it's definitely something too nice to take apart and restore, owner says the original upholstery is under the seat covers he's had on the car since new. He's asking $15K which puts it well out of my price range but perhaps it's not entirely outrageous considering how clean it is. Also, while the owner says its a Super Six the rear windshield has bright perimeter trim and there's also what appears to be Commodore side trim (?); I'll post a link to some pics later tonight. I know I won't be buying it but possibly somebody else here may be interested (in So Cal).0

I agree. An excellent original is as good as it gets and would command top dollar in my book. You can't duplicate it. No one has said if it was a coupe or a sedan. I am assuming a sedan. I'm in So Cal... I'd love to look at it anyway.0 -
Here are the pics:

It was pretty misty when I took the pictures so everything was damp; either way you can probably tell that while the car is very clean it's by no means "showroom new". The striped fabric on the door panels was in very good to excellent condition which I believe is probably a good indicator of what lies under the seat covers. The car is in Glendora, CA, I can email the phone number privately to anyone interested enough to ask for it.0 -
what body style it is makes a LOT of difference in value. A '51 S6 is a rare model as in '51 the Hornet was intro. & became the sales leader. Sedans were by far the biggest % of production ergo the least valuable.
It is probably stick shift & if so having overdrive makes it far more desirable & driveable.
Keep us posted.0 -
I say a 7-8K car tops. Will not get 15K for it.0

This car looks and sounds just like one that was sold out of an estate in, I believe, TN, right down to your description of the plastic seat covers. That car had manual trans and was sold a few years back.0

I kinda like the color, never really thought of that one.0
