1949 262 Water pump heater hose

Hello again,
O.K. I'm sure that what is on my car is wrong.
A black flexible heater hose runs from the water pump over the top of the head on the passenger side of the engine and drops off the head at the back connecting to the heater core inlet.
From what I have been able to learn it should be hard line from the water pump that follows along the side of the head (supported by a strap attached to the head at the middway point), then terminating at the back of the block and connected to the heater core inlet by a flexible heater hose.
Is the above correct? Can I have a line of correct diameter made/bent and make a strap to support it? Does someone sell a line ready made?
I don't like the idea of the hose laying on top of the head and rubbing all the time. It just feels wrong and it doesn't look like something Hudson would do.

DSLI have the updated steel line that runs back the block and only uses a short piece of rubber hose to heater, email me for info. Xalbrighthudsons@msn.com, you will need the adapter for the water pump to replace the hose fittingdrop the X on email address0

Thanks for the replies.
I would like to keep my car as true as I can to it's original Hudson factory "exit condtion". For my 49 that appears to mean a strap supporting the hose. The strap attaching to the head. Too bad I didn't spring for a later Step Down Eh!
Does anyone have an image of what the strap looks like in original condtion? Would the hose be supported above the head or alongside the head like the later steel lines. Hope all will forgive me please! I'm not being cheap. If the steel line were correct than that's what I'd want.
My car is now in cold storage (I live in Minnesota) so I'm trying to get ready for some more work next spring. This summer I pulled the differential replaced all the seals, wheel bearings and set up the end play. That stopped a pinion seal leak and give me more confidence in the axle status.

here is picture of brass strap on my son's 1948 C8. 8 cylinder used 2 of these straps to hold heater hose to steel bracket that keeps hose above head. 6 cylinder should use same strap.0

Looks like the strapping used to secure old asbestos air cell insulation to boiler piping.0

I hope this works! Here is an image of the support strap on a 48 coupe that Jerre Waye from Minneapolis sent to me. He said that the stock wrapped on the hose is steel at this time and not the brass is should be.

Go for Bill's steel line. The reason Hudson went to it is because it's an improvement in looks and performance.0

O.K.
I found an original from Ken Amman in MI. Here is a drawing I made of it. The brass stock is wrapped on these because the orignal spot welded part breaks off with age and being unwrapped and rewrapped if hoses are replaced.

I think the piece that was spot welded to this said bracket is the same small strap that you find on the firewall and other places to hold wiring harness',hoses,etc....I'll bet they had barrels full of these straps.I wonder what the jig looked like to locate these in the body plant?.0

I've got to believe the hole in the thin stock spot welded to the heavy stock might have helped in a jig to weld them. It also would fit over a threaded retainer to allow the straps to be fitted to the firewall. Dual use for the same part? Seems efficient.
