I'm sure you've all seen this car by now. I can't tell if it's a '52 or '53, but that's not the point in my bringing it up. I'm just curious to know if you folks agree that it has a '48 - '50 dashboard in it? It is, isn't it? Or am I wrong? I have a '50 Commodore that someone went to the trouble of installing a '48 or '49 dash into. When I first got it, I assumed that it had a dash fire at some point and the original '50 dash was toast. But after not much inspection at all (the wiring was all original and in fine condition), I realized that it had apparently been changed because of someone's preference. The '48 - '50 dashes (particulary the '48 and '49s) are really beautiful and must have been quite striking when people saw them for the first time when new. They were, as most of you know, styled after the dashes in fine yachts and cruisers of the day - Chris Crafts, and the like. In addition to the remarkable new step down bodies, I'll bet that those dashes helped close some sales from day one.

    James, not much picturewise to go from but looking at the space between the speaker and edge, I would say that is the structural portion of a 51-53 dash with the curved face removed. The earlier dash extends into a bull nose and wraps back behind the face panels, on the later the dash face itself is curved towards the passenger compartment and lines up with the top edge.

    Nick, you're probably right. I thought that I was seeing that very bull-nose that you mention. Also, I thought that the top of it looked flatter than I expected a '51 and later to appear. Just old eyes, probably!

    Man, this is a rough one. I can't imagine someone building a good car out of this. Has to be cheaper to buy one that is done already.

    It just takes some patience, money, time and imagination. Here is Nick's 2 years ago. Ken and I only work 1 or 2 days a week at most!
