Hi all---Looking for information regarding easy installation of transmission with overdrive onto the rear of engine. As I recall there had been suggestions about using 4" studs as an alignment vehicle for mating the bell housing with engine but I can not remember the details. Thanks. Hudsonly---Cliff Minard.

    HI CLIFF, Yup, useing some long bolts with the heads cut off and a taper ground on them is always a good idea, especially on the heavy stuff. I still need 4 bumper guards for my 37 "T" if you have any. Don't have to be real nice, just not all rusted up. Bud

    Cliff, I installed the transmission in my Hornet by having it under the car, and using my engine crane to lift it up. I chained a length of lumber to get the extra length I needed to get the length to reach right in to the car, and lowered it right down to get the correct lift without hitting the dash. A couple of 3" studs in the top holes make it easy to align the housing, and you need to have the transmission in top gear so you can turn the output shaft to get the clutch splines to engage. It's a tricky operation when you are on your own, but with the aid of good equipment it is not too difficult. I take it you are referring to the single lever transmission? The double lever type you can fit the bell housing seperately, and the ttansmission afterwards - much easier! Good luck,

    I just pulled the engine out, attached the transmission, and put it back in. Especially on the older cars (with little clearance in the x-member) it's really difficult to work in there. Much easier to do, when the engine is out on the floor!
