I appreciate your honesty and can relate to your story. The Ford must have had the Interceptor engine.. Not many of us guys had camera's back then.. I put a Hornet/hydro in this Pacemaker (pictured) and it became a Rocket ship light to light with the Std 4.09 rear... I added a few sparkplug washers under the Hydro pressure spring to raise shift points...It would lunge & out-run (practically) everything for a couple blocks....I would purposely only race short distances. I remember beating a std shift Old's 88 and a std shift V8 Dodge and felt like a king until eventually getting beat by a '50 Ford business cpe with a 6cyl!!... I like to think the motor was getting tired....0

FYI
Here is Park Waldrop's nice '38 Hudson that he whipped new Olds & Caddy;'s at the Granetelli's North Chicago Half Day Drag Strip way back in '53. They had it out 4 Times and Won every time out. Once with the Motor in a '40 Tudor Hudson. Car Turned 83.67 regularly but no Timing Strips were available back then..Calculated out to 17 seconds....Park still has the Trophy's today. (Probably wished he had the car too)...
Thanks for sending the pictures Park.......Ol Racer PS: Lets keep the pictures coming regardless of age.0 -
Park, Was the engine a 6-8 cyl. I wish That I had that 38 now.
Thanks Rudy0 -
FYI
More Info on Park Waldrop's draggin '38...It had a splasher 8 Cyl from a '42 Commodore convertible built by a Shop in Fort Wayne that ran two splasher 8's on the local 5/8 mile high banked circle Track. One was a '36 cpe and the other a slant back sdn and were the only non-ford cars....The 8 had lightened Jet pistons (and more) turning over 85 at the Strip in the heavy Hudson sdn,,, Eventuallythe Motor was freshened then put into a '35 Terraplane (that weighed 800+ lbs less).
Park stated the Terraplane would do smoky burnouts and actually smoked a new '56 Vette. No 1/4 mi spd or picture available of the Terraplane but there could be more to add after reading an interesting Article from a previous White Triangle News.... (Here I thought I was the only one that successfully raced a 4dr sdn (because cpes were scarce) Ol Racer0 -
FYI
Here are a couple better pictures right from Drag Race Magazine that Ike Smih from Or sent me of the Record Holder Hudson's!....

FYI
OUR 4dr '37 TERRAPLANE Stock Car...(Couldnt find a cpe) Ran a 212" splasher motor in '59 & 60 against all V8's and a few other Hudsons finishing 5th both Seasons in a 4Dr against all lighter cpes. In 61 we put in a 'junk yard' Hornet with 2"valves 30 Degree seats and litterly cleaned house... The Track reduced us to 1 carb (like everyone else, despite only a 6) to equalize the field, but we stuck on a large White Trk 2bbl with little port blending and still won the Season Championship...(Pictured).. Usually had to start in the rear and often Won Heat, Semi, and Features... Not because of me but because the car was way over powering the competition... Just a matter of steering around the traffic...
In '62 the Track (because of all the complaints made us drop to a 262 Wasp but we cleverly lowered the gears to rev higher and still Won so we were Thrown Out... Barred[/U]said because we won so much we had to be illegal.......Couldnt even go in to watch... Mid Season I switched to 'Modified' Hornet with many Clifford Parts at a larger 1/3 milr Track that opened in the Area fot next few yrs.....picture to follow later....
Ol'Racer0 -
FYI
Forgot that the 'junkyard' Hornet motor above also had a milled 262 Head when we did the valves....
Below Our first '37 Tudoor Win! Started to modify the motor a little and run 'direct' drive at the new larger area Speedway.... Ol' Racer0 -
I hope the VW was souped up......
Ike Smith 'Hole shot' toward another Win!! More Race Pictures coming...

Here's the Jet at Don Garlits Museum in FLA.0
-
Royer,
Thanks for Posting the color Picture of Sloan McCauley's Hudson Jet in Gartlis Race Museum
Here is another picture of of the Jet on the cover of North Texas News in 1971 curtesy of Rudy Bennett... This Hudson Hornet powered Jet held the NHRA 'Stock' Record from 1967 to 1975 13.2 @ 104 MPH*.....[/B]
*Think about that Speed & ET a moment... Isnt that similar to the Big Three Cars Super Stock Times back in the Day with big V8's, Aluminum front ends, etc... Hmmm...Think of the Potential in a 'Modified' Hornet Jet... Ol' racer0 -
Hudson's were always FAST...
Long before the Terriffic Terraplane Bonneville Records, & AAA Hill Climbs, and the Fabulous Hot Hornets......

Little More regarding Ike Smith,
The Key Person behind a lot of Record breaking Hudson Hornets back in the day.. Ike's Jet usually ran 14.10 around 95 MPH Stock .... However
Ike shared a time when he built a motor (with Isky 435 cam and 1/2" Stroker) then went to the Half Moon Bay NHRA Event
to track testand ran 12.90 @ 102+ but blew a front Hydro seal... a first...
So they put a diaper underneath and went on to Win the Eliminations..... Ike had a great little helper back then too.....
(I can relate to the whole family helping out)....Pictures from Ike Smith collection
