Rear Disc Brake Conversion - on OEM axle?

Has anyone tried a Disc Brake conversion on the rear for a Stepdown using the original axle housing?
Could something like this even be possible?
Just thinking outloud in regards to the Super 6 - the rear drums have to be a PIA to find that are turnable...

HI DAN, we used to make our own back in the "old" race car days. Would take the rotors from a Vette or something, didn't really matter what as long as it would work. Made what ever parts needed to mount and such from again what ever would work. You can do slideing or fixed caliper. They always worked good and not something a guy like you could'nt handle, just sit back and plan it out. This does require some lathe work and a competent welder. Anyone know whatever happened to the effort going on with Fairborn Studebaker on their Dana 44 flanged axle conversion for Hudsons? I have one in my '64 Hawk and it worked great. This would make the Hudson disk brake conversion a bit better.0

Ray Barker shared his disc brake conversion pictures and I have posted them in a PDF document at the following address. Ray uses available OEM products with a home made bracket to convert a Hudson Dana rear end to disc brakes that have a parking brake that connects to the original Hudson cables. Address your questions to Ray... email is provided... may need to add RAY to what is posted.

Contact info for Fairborn Studebaker: 937-878-1576 or www.fairbornstudebaker.com for the flanged axle kits. There are several selling brackets etc ftr rear disc brake setups on the Studebaker section of ebay.. Rambos ride you will have to change over to the dana 44, removable rear cover style of rearend, that will get you away from the expensive tapered bearings of the Hudson manufactured rearend. With the dana unit gear ratios and carrier options abound. Randys Ring & Pinion in Everett has most of parts you might need. Lou Cote0

Thats a neat looking disc brake set up, on the Hudson Dana 44 rear , can the rear axel bearings be bought for a decent price ??0 -

i plan on using a ford maverick 8" rear. as far as my measurements are they are really close and then dics brake conversion is readily available .

Stateline, wheel bearings for the Hudson Dana 44s aren't quite a dime a dozen, but they're about $12-15.0

You will need to know what ratio you currently have to better match up. Stock Hudson ratios varied from 3.07, 3.55 and 4.11. 4.11's were mostly stick & overdrive. 3.07 53&54 automatics, 3.55's 52 automatic. Yes rearends can still be found, two club members in the area have several parts cars, may have what you need. Lou Cote0
