Can someone give me a modern manufacter paint code for this color? I have a 52 Hornet Coupe that I'm going to have repainted in its original color. I want to make sure it is correct to original.

Also- I don't have the car with me but what color would the dash be painted? I seem to recall it is brown? Thanks!

  • The dash color would be dependent upon the interior color itself. I have a 1953 Super Wasp that is Honey Cream over Texas Tan the interior is green and so is the dash painted in green.
  • I Think That 52 Was Woodgrain.
  • your 52 Hornet would of had a brown leather wood grain or possibly bue leather pattern , not painted. all 53 dashes were painted. Nels, dsDDSI am having a 52 coupe painted Texas tan right now the same as you. dsID took the original chips to the painter and he is going to match it or have it mixed to match chip. will let you know what we come up with BILL ALBRIGHT

If the car had the brown interior it should have the same pattern on the dash as was in the brown trim on the car. I call it leather trim. I am replacing the interior material on my 52 Hornet Sedan and it is correct with the brown leather looking grain on the dash, and metal side window trim. The faux leather is available at a reasonable price, but the material is not. I am using a pattern provided by Hampton Coach. If you need a photo drop me an email at brownie.petersen@atk.com

    Good luck with your project.

There's a fellow in PA who can re-do the dash beautifully, to look just like original. He did mine, and you can't tell the difference from the nicely preserved original grained panels along the top of the doors. In spite of claims by others, he's the only one I've seen whose work really duplicates the original. He did Ken Shulte's '51 and Dave Sollon's '52. Advertises in Hemmings and AACA magazine. • Thanks Bill,

Please let me know. I'm having the engine firewall done up in Idaho and will ship it here to So Cal in July. Brakes will be new and will have the factory 7X engine installed in it that I bought from John Soneff. Three speed w O/D tranny has been gone thru and new clutch.

I'll have the exterior paint and interior done here in L.A.

There is an outfit in N. J., a restoration shop, who have all the Hudson paint formulas back into the '20s & can provide you with, at last time I got paint from them, nitroceluous paint & others you can no longer even get made, legally, in so. Calif. I'll try to recall their name; they adv. in various trade publications but seldom their paint line.

When I last lived in Calif., Bill A. was coming down to Escondido to get his paint mixed as all he could get in the L. A. smog zone was water based, LOL!
