My Hudson todo list :-)
Hello all.
Thanks again for all the help over the years. I'm popping back out of the woodwork because this is another Hudson weekend.
I have a 1948 Super Six and it's in pretty good shape these days, thanks largely to the advice I've received on this board. But I have a few questions, and things left to fix. Maybe these should be in separate threads, but here goes...
1: I need the correct temp sender for my car. If I recall, it needs to read 50 ohms when the car is hot, and a dead short when it's cold. The sender I have now runs backwards :-) What is the part number, and/or where can I get a sender for a '48? Remember, the gauges changed with the '
50.
2: I need to get my hands on a driver's side window. I also need to do some exploring and see how I get the old one out to begin with. Maybe I can just have a piece of glass cut.
3: I need a 4th gear!... or something. I have a 308, but the original '48 drivetrain. The engine seems to run fast at 60 mph. My Hudson and I showed up at Fred Garrity's Parts sale in Feb. That was amazing! He has about 6 Hudsons in his back yard alone! He has a few rear-ends lying around, but we need a part number or something so we can tell if any of them would be useful to me. I suppose I could also try a 3 speed + OD trans. Ideas?
4: My front doors still don't close properly. Think I'll try hitting the strikers with a welder to build them back up. Is that a good idea? Tell me before I break something :-)
If I can help others, please ask. I'm a good electrical engineer and can help a great deal along those lines with a car resto.
A plug for Radiator Doctor (http://raddoc.com/) I just had my radiator completely rebuilt. It cost close to $800,and except for the top tank (which is 60 years old) the thing looks brand new!

K-Gap sells reproduction strikers? I thought they only sold plastic parts. I'll definately check them out!.
Will also call Bill A about the sender.

You can get new glass cut at any glass jobber, since it's flat. Take your old window as a pattern. The Hudson shop manual (available from HET club store) has good instructions on removal.
You need to get your hands on a Hudson OD transmission. You'll need the tranny, shorter 2-pc. driveshaft (or shorten yours), and dash control cable. I was able to locate one in a local junk yard a couple of years ago, and I can't imagine a more dramatic improvement to my car....and I've done a lot of stuff to it too! It's actually better than a fourth gear when you get used to using it.
