Overdrive wiring ???
We have a chapter member with a 50 Commodore 8 who needs some sort of wiring diagram to get an OD setup working. This car had the supermatic/od combination, he's not worried about being authentic, just needs it to work. You don't get far fast with 4.11 gears. Thanks in advance!! Lou Cote

You're lucky as most ODs come with 4.56 gears.
Send me a note at HETcramerlp@roadrunner.com and drop the HET and I'll send you one.0 -

1. There is an OD diagram without Supermatic on Ken Cates' Stepdown web site
2. Another location: http://www.tocmp.com/manuals/trans/Borg-Warner%20Overdrive/pages/Overdrive_Page_11_jpg.htm
The whole manual is on this site.
3. Another source of Overdrive wiring

I'd be surprised if it didn't have 4.55 gears in it. These were made to take of in second gear with ease.0 -
I had a 49 Commodore with Drivemaster and overdrive( they came as a package, but you all know dat). The kickdown switch was missing and OD was not working. Took a test light herr and there, run a wire from a hot source to see if selinoid worked, it did. I spliced into the keyed hot source for the OD, fused it, ran a wire to a toggle switch on the bottom of dash, then to selinoid and had OD on demand. Governor would tell it when rpms were at the right point , flip da switch, OD. Allowed me to not have to worry about OD going in and out in traffic and still have free wheeling. Bothers me that to get out of OD, ya have push da petal to da floor in traffic to come outa OD. Made for comfortable setup and easier on all components.
Thanks for letting me share,

I've known others to do the same with satisfactory results, but one thing that folks need to remember about the kick-down switch is it has an important second function. Besides disengaging the overdrive, it triggers circuitry that breifly interupts spark at the coil. This is done so to protect the drive line from the massive shock of a "gear change" at open throttle. Remember there's no torque converter to absorb shock -- it's all mechanical. Mind your throttle when engaging your switch. People who have bypassed the kick-down switch in the past sometimes end up with twisted trans input shafts.0
