Is anyone else following along with the 53' restoration in Hemming's Classic Car. It's really nice work.

  • Sure am. I sold Bill some of the parts he used in that resto. The guy who did the resto work was a tempermental type that was hard to deal with so I wound up working with Bill himself. Big difference nice guy. I think he first showed that car at the National in Pittsburgh a few years ago. The problem now he told me is that it's so perfect that he can't drive it anywhere without the fear of degrading it's condition. :(
  • I'm not sure what he expected to have as an end result, but I would think after spending almost a 1/4 million $$ on restoring a Hudson Hollywood, he would not expect to drive it. I'd keep it in my Living Room. If he wants a driver, just go out and pick up a nice one for $20-30K.

you could put up a wall sized poster in your garage and accomplish the same thing cheeper.
  • Yeah, but if you have the bucks to do it, why not? Of course, if I had the bucks to do it, I'd also be 'ruining' it by driving the wheels off of it. Wear it out in 5 years and start over. It would be the same as having a new Rolls Royce as a driver...only with more class.

Aaron, that won't do. It's all about the three dimensional aspect. :D

I agree Rick -- in fact if I have a quarter million dollars and was going to spend it all on cars alone I'd rather get like 25 Nice Step-down runner/drivers. hehe

Dave -- 3D aspect huh? Well then you could get a clay mock up for your garage to sit and stare at and still be ahead. Heck you'd still then have the dough left over to invite your friends over to stare at it with you and provide the beers!!. LOL
  • Aaron,

I have the real thing. I can stare at it (and do) and drive it too. BTW, if you need a place to store some of those 25 Stepdowns, let me know. Although it would be a burden, I'd find a way to drive each and every car for you. See what a good friend I am. :D
