Part value???

I've got a nice '37 Terraplane grille, surround, grille trim, rad support, and radiator, plus a set of headlight buckets and mounts (the h/l buckets need quite a bit of work due to rust, but are good overall, and comes with the stainless rings, too!). All assembled and complete...The grille surround is about as rust-free as any 70-year-old sheetmetal I've ever seen!



I'm trying to figure what these would be worth. I have a guy interested in the assembly, but he wants to put it on a traditional/rat/street rodded '38 Plymouth. I don't care what he wants it for, but I want a fair price for it. I quoted him a price of $500.00, which would include a TP rear bumper and a '37 dash shell (no instruments), all in great condition.



Do you think $500 is a fair asking price? Would you pay it if you were looking for the same?

    I think you're selling to cheap
    If those grill bars are straight you should start at 750 at least
    I'm straightening a 33 Ford grill for a fellow at a cost of 500 and I'm not plating any of it, it will go to the chrome-shop for that. Those grill bars are stainless steel on that 37 aren't they?

    $750 seems more in line for a starting point. I guess my question would be, that since you have a 37T, why would you want to get rid of a good core/spare, of a tough to find part? just curious...

    I understand space restrictions mean you can't hang on to everything but I would think those parts should be listed in the WTN so that someone restoring a 37 can get their hands on them. No offence to the rat rodder but what a waste of good parts.

    Depending on the condition of the grille and Stainless trim, the $500 to $750 is fair. You see them on Ebay that need quite a bit of work for 350-400 and more for the grille and shell. It would be nice to go on an original car, but certainly just as nice on a well done street rod.

    I agree with Harry and most of the above. $750.00 is more reasonable. $500 is a steal and I'd grab it if they were parts I needed. Surely there is a club member or even someone with a '37T that would be interested in these parts. As time goes on, they don't get any easier to find.



    Let me ramble a bit about Hudson parts and pricing. I'm always quick to point out to everyone that something is worth:



    1) What the seller is willing to accept, and

    2) What the buyer is willing to pay



    Example #1: I recently found a pair of NOS round ashtrays that go adjacent to the rear seat in a step-down convertible. Price: $175.00 $175!!! You gotta be kidding me? Right? Well, no sir, not exactly . . . that's the price. What am I going to do? Go down the street and buy from the competition? Yeah, 20 years ago, these probably went for $40. 20 years from now, they might be worth $400. Who knows?



    Example #2: Keep in mind that a '34 F*** REPRODUCTION grill currently goes for about $2850.00 . . . just the grill . . . a reproduction, mind you.



    Example #3: I was just given $4000 worth of parts because the guy liked me and wanted to clean out the garage. Guess those parts were worth only to make them disappear.



    Example #4: You can buy a beautiful reproduction '49 Comm. steering wheel for about $800.00. Why wouldn't a complete grill surround, bumper and whatever else you had be worth more than a steering wheel?



    Anyway, to answer your question, I'd pay $500.

    That's what I was looking for, guys, thanks. I'm going to hang on to the parts for awhile, anyway.

    And that's the problem that a lot of people don't get the msg. "20 years ago, these probably went for $40."



    20 years ago gas was under a dollar a gallon - or close to it.

    If you want to cut and paste, highlight the wording you want to "copy", then once highlighted, use 'CTRL' + 'c' on your key board. Then get to where you want to "paste", and use 'CTRL' + 'v' on your key board.



    For convenience, 'CTRL' + 'x' is used to "cut".
