36 left sidemount fender

I was looking for a left sidemount fender for a 36 Terraplane or Hudson, but I don't see any shown in the Butler book, execpt for the English versions. They had them in 35, and I have seen them on a 37, but not a 36. Did they make them for the U.S. market, and if so,does anyone have one they would like to sell?

Thanks,

Scott

  • Scott, if you've a fender there was a post on here a bit back showing how a guy made one from it, not really hard and likely much cheaper, i'd ask for some help on that Bud

I can verify they come on a '36. One side and both sides, even. There's a nice rod located behind the spare, that, when turned with your lug wrench or a regular socket and extension, it raises the spare up and out of the well.

    Scott,

This is Richard, we met in Auburn, I have just spent about 5 years installing a right hand sidemount on my 36T. Do not get a '36 Hudson fender. I did that and it won't work. The pocket is installed differently than the Terraplane. All '36T trucks had a right side mount. I have even seen some with dual sidemounts. Unfortunately most truck fenders are thrashed. I finally got a "pocket" and had it installed in my good sound right front fender. Perhaps "Bent Metal" will be so kind to jump in here and post the pictures of his work on my fender. Actually I think that they were posted just a few weeks ago.

You also have to find the hardware, each year is different and Hudson is different from Terraplane. If you are interested in pursuing this, I am the guy to talk to. I have now accomplished this after lots of false starts and wrong turns!!!

Scott, look on pg 2 of the '36 wheel cover post, I just moved it to the front.
  • Thanks Richard,

I would be interested in finding out more about what you used for a pocket.

Well, maybe I just made it "look" easy. lol Richard had all of the brackets and believe me, that makes a huge difference. As far as cheaper? I'm not so sure about that either. I think if you could find a fender with the pocket in there already it would be cheaper then making one. ... In my opinion.

    Scott,

If you email me your address (I might already have it) I can send you my notes on all of this. You need the hardware, I bought a truck on Ebay that looked like compost, for $60 bucks and had the guy "blue tip" the mounting brackets off of it and send them to me. I don't know what he did with the rest of the truck. The brackets are left hand and right hand also. I can show you exactly what you need, good luck finding it. I am real happy with the way mine turned our. Guy is right, if you can find a decent fender, that is the best way to go, just remember, it has tobe off of a Terraplane, not a Hudson. The Hudson bracket from the frame is also different than the Terraplane, as is some of the other hardware. I tried to find out what might be the same from '34 or '35 from looking in the parts book, but it isn't very helpful. Good luck.

Here is my '36T at a show over Memorial Day, I still need to put on the tire tread cover (which was still at the paint shop) and the hubcap, which I still have to have chromed. There is a full wheel cover option, which I am not planning to do. I like the artillery wheel with the hubcap.

The color match looks good on that fender. I'll be anxious to see the whole thing done with the tread cover and hub cap. :)

If you want, bring your running boards up with you next time and we'll work on those. You can also see the 47', that's being changed to a 41' with suicide doors, etc. I think you'll like it.:D
  • Thanks Guy's,

Do you know if the brackets from a RIGHT side mount would work for the LEFT side that I am looking for? Richard, I sent you a PM with my e-mail address.

    Scott,

If you look in the parts book there are a different numbers for the left and the right side mount hardware. After my mistake thinking that I could use a Hudson side mount fender on a Terraplane, I have new respect for Hudson part numbers. If it is a different part number, it is a different part!!
