Hudson people are everywhere

I play the euphonium (baritone horn) in the UNLV Community Band. There's an old guy, Stanley Rosen, that sits next to me in my section. We've known each other for at least a year, but our conversations are usually about the music we're playing. Just before the western regional, I told him I was driving my Hudson to San Jose that weekend. "HUDSON??!!" It turns out that Stanley was a member of HET in the 70's and had restored a 1930 Hudson Rumbleseat couple. He sold it in the late 70's or early 80's when he lived in Cleveland and then stopped with the club.

Now it gets stranger.....
Before the San Jose trip, I asked one of the cross country piano movers I use what I should go see in San Jose. He said I should visit his client's store, San Jose Piano. Well, I never made it to his piano store - too many Hudson people to visit with. This past Sunday, Bob Whitmeyer, the owner of San Jose Piano, called me to see if I could help him with getting a piano to one of his clients that moved here to Las Vegas. After we worked out the details, I mentioned that I should have stopped to visit him last week when I was in San Jose for a Hudson meet. "Hudson meet??!! Oh boy, I sure wish some one would have told me about it" To my surprise, Bob has a '54 Super Wasp Hollywood and two Jetliners in his garage plus some parts cars in Oregon. Bob had been in HET in the 70's but had gotten away from it because he got busy with business and life. I had Sam send him a copy of the WTN; Bob said he's going to join HET again.

The moral of the story....tell everyone you run into about Hudsons and HET. You never know who you'll run into.

And I was telling a guy from California about my Hudson several years ago, and he said, "There's this Hudson guy in Fontana- Bill something. . ." :D

Howdy, gonna be in "Lost Wages" next week.

One of my oldest HET buddies plays, or did play, clarinet for Dixieland bands while working for Lockheed in L.A. He's restoring a '46 C cp. I sold him a long time ago but not sure if he plays anymore.

He played with the Firehouse Five + Two on one of Harrah's Horseless Carriage tours in the Sierra Nevada mucho anos ago.

Oh well, "a long time ago in another galaxy" so to speak, LOL
  • Hi oldhudsons,
If time permits, I'd love to meet you. My store is only 3 miles from the Sahara Hotel, so it's easy to meet up with visitors.

This goes for everybody, if you find yourself in Sin City, it's easy to reach me at my store at 800-777-6874 (it won't even cost you a quarter!!) We'll go have lunch or something.

OK, may try it but will be traveling with 2 other couples - we're staying at the MGM Grand.

Looked it up & my buddy plays the sax NOT the clarinet!

We are driving to Vegas on the 15th after the Big Country meet in Albuquerque. We are actually staying in Henderson to watch our daughter compete in the NFL tournament (that's "National Forensics League", as in speech and debate). Hopefully, we will be able to look you up.
  • I live in Henderson, so that's even easier. It's always fun to meet new Hudson folks.
  • I live in Ely, NV. There's a car show here in Ely every August. It's hosted by the local hot rod club, but we still get a fair number of original classics in there too. There was an early-mid 50s red convertible Hudson there from Salt Lake w/ Twin-H setup either last year or the year before. I'm sure someone here knows who it is, but I'm new to this group and don't remember who it was.

Anyway, if you Vegas folks want to get out of the heat, then come on up for it. It's always a good time.

Say Hello to Stan Rosen for me. I looked at his 30 Hudson in the 70's but couldn't come up with the cash (Had justed started the Spudnut Donut Business in this area) His son media blasted my 48 Commodore 8 (full pressure lube) which is still running and going to National this July (if I'm still running)

  • Cool, I'll see Stan on Wednesday.

family illness has forced us to have to cancel our trip - too bad, we were going on from "Lost Wages" to Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, & Canyon de Chelly.

Oh well, I've been to all of them before but the others hadn't & know they would really have enjoyed it.
