Bendix Treadle Vac power Brakes
Iam rebuilding a Bendix Treadle Vac power brake unit for our 54 Hornet
in the instructions that I got from Kanter Parts Supply it said to use
Bendix vaccume cylinder oil to soak wick in and a light coat of same inside
booster can for leather seal. I used white grease but piston will not return
wthhout pulling brake pedal out. It sticks. Does anybody have any ideas.

It would seem that using white grease is the problem.0

Dave53-7C is probably right. There are ports in the unit that can be plugged with grease.0

Duncan You Should Have Used The Oil I Have Rebuilt Many You Have Grease Where Is Should Not Be Take It Back Apart And Clean It And Put It Back Together Again0

You can use mineral oil. It is a safe alternative that won't harm rubber parts. You can purchase it at any drug store.0

I've had this trouble for a while too. in fact 5 years (I put a bleed in the vac line to prevent it from sticking) but I want it fixed. I pulled it appart and cleaned everything (all the way down to the air valve in the power piston) I however didn't want to brake the seal on the air valve so I mearly checked it by blowing air though it and it sealed great. Perhaps a little too great since it is now better but still sticks. Is the grease getting in this air valve the trouble? Does it cause the air to not be able to get through the grease and open the port back up? I don't want to tear it down again only to find out that wasn't what causes it.
What ports get plugged up, and how should I be cleaning them? I just wiped with a cloth as best as I could last time Like I said its much better but still not perfect.
Oh and I had fluid in the power piston chamber which I hear is caused by the galley in the fluid boul getting backed up, how should I go about cleaning the gunk out out the galley?

As I understand these systems, grease is the problem. You need to clean everything of grease and use mineral oil in its place.0

Napa sells "Brake Assembly Fluid " made by Raysbestos just for that purpose. Sorry I do not have a number.
It works extremely well if your car will be sitting for along time .0
