I went the the shop ( to deliver the front guards and doors) where my car is yesterday ( Sat ) and they have started putting on the shell, vallances and floors etc back together, this is going to be 1 sweet ride in the next couple months, I am hoping to start the engine up in the next couple weeks as we just need the wiring loom and gauges to be installed to do a key start, i will start loading some pics back here, i have to order some window rubbers from K-Gap and then I can install the glass as the electric windows will be in next week as well with a little luck, have organised a few bottles of J Ds for the start up and a call to the boys to come on around and have a tibble or two whiole we run the cam in

The front guards and light bar etc will also be back on the old girl this week with the rear guards, running boards and front vallance and roof brow ready to be brought to the shop for installation the following week

I have shown David Webster a mock up of the mural that is going on the rumble seat lid which is finished, ready for the sign writer to put on (Sweet Pea) name on and then the clear coat to lck it all in

I know this isnt some of your guys cup tea but this will do plenty for the Essex-Hudson name Down Under

They will need sun glasses for there eyes as the yellow is as bright as I can get, all I need is for it to run sub 13s and I will be even Happier

Small block was a good motor choice and your project looks real nice... Appears that the hardest work is behind you now.... Enjoy the finishing....

Hi James, unfortunatly I havn't done the mascots been so tied up with the car and work but I have news on the front bumper irons, I had an extra 2 if you still want them, The are the lost wax process but you will still have to do a little work on them, the guy I have used over the years is slow and is an artist, each time I go in there its another 6 weeks and so on and he keeps putting up his prices its seems everything is 60-00+

but I was having a thought and that was to see if the club would be interesrted in the moulds that I have as it seems that there is only a couple of thirties cars over here so everthing I make has to be sent to the US and elswhere, I have moulds for the mascots, side light storks and the bumper irons, so if there is anyone that wants the lot email me

I will speak to Will Moon as he has a lot of 31s and was after some more mascots as well
  • i actiually think im just going to fab up a set of the bumper irons from some tube steel sections. id like to have the hood mascot, but if not, oh well, ill just have the holes filled in the false radiator cap if i ever have the stuff plated.

Thanks for the comments, went back to the shop 2night and the roof is in and have made a frame in steel instead of the tacking rails, then washed in and out with polyuratheane , electrics have started to go in,electric windows and saw a picture of the mural on the boot lid, not bad still waiting for the sign writer to fill in the lettering of the gas pump and hudsonite stand (old wire stand with a whole lot of oil cans inside it) Iam old enough to remember seeing them in our gas stations but young enough to still want to play LOL

My freind Paul who is working on it he has come up with a trick way of sending the power into the doors without using wires but by using the contactors for helping automatic door closers work. will take some pics
  • How much $ is gas & diesel down under ? Maybe you can make us up here feel better ? LOL :)

Strangely enough, it doesn't make me feel any better, either. Even though, our National average just hit $4.00/ gal.

I like your car and I like small block chevy engines, ever better with a supercharger under the hood. Mine always ran cooler, better gas mileage 24 mpg and gobs of power 12.75 at 107mph 3840 pounds with 195/ 14 radial tires. terrible traction problems. Your car will probably be much faster with less weight and better tires. You are doing a fantastic job on your car. Thank you for sharing your project with the rest of us. Lee O'Dell

thanks for the remarks, I have some 31 tin available if anyone is looking

and a few other bits and pieces

I also have moulds for mascot, side lights and bumper Irons that I want to sell as a complete lot, if anyone is interested as business commitments is keeping me to busy to carry on moulding them for people

Will have a pick of the finished mural early next week as clear is going on today and tommorrow cut and polished

Opps, have had a major spat with mural guy (or his secretry) and to cut to the chase, he washed off the mural off the rumble seat lid, which has cost him $2000 in labour and which she gave me a estimate of $900 , and then proceeded to try and charge me $1575-00 so this is going to delay the car a bit as I get someone else to do its

but I feel that the cost difference was way out of line with the estimate

I did say I would pay the cost begudginly but if he said that I didnt appreciate his work as a artist then I shouldnt have it

Oh Dear, thats life, I will just move on with everything else
  • Hey Mike, is that what's going on the mural?!!!!
  • essexcoupe3131
    essexcoupe3131 Senior Contributor
Hey Jaye, yes this is what was on the car, before the guy washed it off, it was already for the clear coat to seal it in.

Iam going to get it redone, with a slight change and that is that Iam going to get a dail put on the gas pump

the mural, it's just a little sassy withpout going over the top

And its my wife's nick name

Hi All managed to get the eye brows on her, vents in the next couple days

the check list is getting shorter, been to see upolster and checking out a second option, the second option has a mate over from California and if he can talk him to stay a little longer and help it will be the place to take it or I would have to wait at least three months to get it into him

    bugger

Found a new mural guy, seen some of his work outstanding and is not a prima donna
