Clutch Flush works... now need electric wiper motor

I flushed the clutch with a mixture of Carbo-Sol & Acetone, the slipping clutch now works great. Also on Ken Cates website there is a guy selling electric wiper motor conversions, but only 12 volt.



Anyone know where I can get a 6 volt electric wiper motor conversion? Any way to put a step up transformer on to get 6 volt up to 12 volt?

    Until the time you find your 6-volt electric wiper motor, have you attempted to check the existing setup?



    1. Are you running a dual-action fuel pump? This can help maintain speed on hills.



    2. If the wiper is sluggish even when the car is not accelerating then the wiper motor needs help anyway. A quick fix would be to introduce some neats foot oil (which will limber up the leather seal inside) by sucking it into the motor (run a tube from the bottle to the inlet on the wiper, then move the motor back and forth. Might be easier if you take off the motor). If this doesn't work you could have the motor rebuilt by someone like Ficken's on Long Island, NY.



    3. Are all your hose connections good, with no leaks?



    4. Are the cables and linkages lubed and do they work easily by hand when you disconnect the motor and remove the wiper arms?



    If you want an electric motor, fine, but in the meantime you might get the the system to work tolerably well by using the vacuum motor, as it did when the car was new.

    My Dad has been using Rain X because the wipers worked so poorly. They move so slow you cannot see them move, it is probably a combination of all things you mentioned.



    Sounds like finding a 6 volt motor is not so easy, I will probably get the vacuum unit rebuilt & do all the things you mentioned in the mean time.



    But I will still go to electric when I find something in 6 volt.

    Just a technical note, transformers only work with AC voltage sources, not DC as is used in cars. There are DC to DC converters that may work, but I have never used them but they are out there.

    I belive a month or two back someone gave the procedure to install a 55 (I think) Chevy electric wiper motor in a step down. I have posted installing JC Whitney $39 universal 12V electric motors in my '37 & '47 Hudson's and noticed JCW also sells a 6V Wiper Motor. I have not converted my stepdown yet but plan to retrieve the Post on the 55 Chevy wiper motor first....

    Six Volt Hudson wiper motor conversions are available... they are the same as the 12 volt mechanically, but use the 6 volt version of the motor. This motor is found in some of the late volkswagons and other European cars. The originator of this conversion died several years ago and he provided 6 or 12 volt conversions. Swap the motors everything else the same. Maybe one of the folks who have one of these conversions can look at thier motor and get a part number? The modifications is pretty straight forward and simple.

    check with Walt Mordenti, he has a nice conversion to electric wipers on his '53 Hornet coupe, it's '1st class', just like the rest of Walt's car ! ! !

    Here is a 6 Volt wiper motor. It can be used with positive or negative ground.

    That is a great deal considering Kit has everything including Park feature, unlike JC Whitney's motors
