308 engine

Not to be a nancy naysayer, but I think your price on an engine that is not running and condition unknown, is pretty high.
The new in crate 308 at that last auction I don't think brought that much.
I think you can get fully rebuilt units from Dave Kostensak for around $1500 more.
Not knowing whether the block is cracked, or much else, it is a risky venture, considering the price.
What I will say, is the engine is super clean looking, the twin H is equally as clean, and everything seems pretty complete. I guess I'm just a bit jaded, I saw one sell on Saturday at an auction for $25, and didn't even consider bidding. I reason it was worth more in scrap metal.
Best of luck on the engine sale.0 -
Kid, I thought maybe he wasn't serious. It looks to me like there are two different aircleaners? Maybe two different carbs? I don't know, something doesn't seem right, including the price.

There isnt any head bolts - motor stuck , Id like to see a pic of it with out the head , far as the price , the $25 one sounds closer0

the air cleaners don't bother me, one looks like a later style, and the other an early style.
I bet the carbs are correct, and they look relatively clean. Probably real good cores to rebuild.
I'm thinking a core 308, which, unless this one has been checked, that the block is good, by a machine shop, is still, $100-500 at best.0 -
Yup, for 2K that motor better be complete and running.0

Looks like a Hash intake.
I just sold a freshly rebuilt 308 long block for $3K exchange. I had machine work done localy and assembled with a complete Dale Cooper Master kit including new studs. Considering trips to the machine shop (80 mile round trips) and other incidentals like sealer, paint ,assembly lube etc.. I worked darned cheap! I was going to use it in my 49, but decided to stay with my old reliable 262. I have another in process, but it won't be given away. IMHO The basic rebuidable block and head (Long block) is probably worth $100-150. If it's local and no transport is involved.Add a couple hundred for undamaged Twin H stuff. I think Dave K gets about $2,900. plus shipping and your core which you have to ship. I guarantee he's not getting rich! The prices today are bargains compared to the next few years!0 -

nice pick on the later twin H.
Not sure what Dave K is using for a rebuild kit, but figure he needs to be putting at least $1500 into parts, he's working pretty cheap as well, that's not counting machine work, either.
I guess what it comes down to is maybe a love for keeping the cars running, and keeping it affordable for those with lesser means to be able to afford to keep them running.0
