Pasadena Chalk Festival and Car Show
Well I had a great Father's Day today. Brought the truck to the Pasadena Chalk Festival and Car Show today. There were about 80 cars there, only one Hudson, mine. I won Best of Class AND Best of Show! Had a lot of beautiful cars there. Was quite suprised and pleased.

That truck of yours deserves it. I saw it at Twin H several months ago and was very impressed. Congratulations0

Thanks hudsonsoul, it does stand out a little. I'm bringing it to the Sierra Madre, Calif. show this Saturday. Gotta get those Hudsons out there.
Here are some of the pictures.0 -

Lance,
When and where is the Sierra Madre show? I wouldn't mind going. Niels0 -
Hi Niels,
The show is this Sat. (tomorrow) from 7-3, on Sierra Madre Blvd, at the corner of Baldwin and Sierra Madre.

Great, See you there. Won't be hard to find each other... I'll be there in a light blue 51 Hornet Coupe. I'll be looking for your truck.0

Very good, I was getting lonely being the only Hudson at the shows. Looking forward to putting a face to the name. BTW, the show really starts at 8:30, line up starts at 7, flyer was mis-printed I found out.0

Lance... persistance and sweat ... Glad you stuck it out... there were times I thought you had thrown in the towel ... glad to see you did not
and that the pickup is out for all to enjoy.
Hope the next show is an even better experience!:)0 -
Very true Wild, but I don't throw in the towel very often. Don't know how I can top last week, just out for the fun now, and to let people know that yes Hudson did make a pickup.0

Lance, you guys have a good show , I hope you come away with a lot of silver ware, and I dont mean out of someones house LOL, Icant wait to be cruising the streets in the next couple months, the only enjoyment will be towing the old girl around next week to atuo electrains and watching peoples faces and the looks, what sort of car is that? because they wont be able to miss her

Thanks Mike, but I could always use another set of silver, lol. I remember doing that, people driving by with smiles and thumbs up. You'll be cruising the streets soon Mike.0

I'm all for shows and getting our cars out, but I don't know if this is the case outside of CA but these fees to show our cars are ridiculous. A cheap show out here is 20.00. For example Neils wanted me to bring my car to this show in Sierra Madre. That is 40 miles each way @ 4.50 a gallon and maybe 15mpg on my car. Then I have to pay 25.00 to let a bunch of people that don't have squat look at my car for free. Plus because my car is there along with others, all the businesses profit from the extra foot traffic. It used to be these shows were free or they gave you some kind of perk if you would bring your car. Now if there are classes and trophies involved that makes it a little better, but many of the shows I have gone to you pay and get nothing. Now I know in some cases these shows depending on where they are cost money to put on, but why don't the businesses pay or they charge the looky loos. If it wasn't for us having these cars that we spend a lot of time and money ourselves on they wouldn't have a show. I have decided to stick to local cruise in's,club events and anything that I am invited to that is either free or they give me something. Hell I can just take any of my old cars out to run errands and have people gawking and asking about them, why should I pay 25 bucks or more for that IMHO.0

Well guys I did not mean to open a can of worms here. And most of these fees go to benifits and charities, and if you want to get your money back just claim it on your taxes, but I don't feel I need to do that.
I do love sharing my Hudson, letting people know that yes they did make pickups and any extra info that I can about Hudson's in general, a lot of which I have learned from the great group of people here.0 -
Totally understand not wanting to pay to display your car. All Cruise nights are generally free and there's enough free shows out there that even still give you incentives that you don't have to go to pay shows.... but the other way to look at it is you're kinda helping revitalize main street USA in these small towns and ma and pop shops that have taken bad hits because of the Walmarts and big box stores of the world have swooped in and are muscling out the little shops until Mainstreet looks the same anywhere in the country.
I've only ever paid $25 for a judged show that one had over 500 cars. On average those trophy shows are $10-$15 in my neck of the woods and they usually pay for the trophies, DJ's, advertising, T-shirts, dash plaques, and goody bags they give you. The more altruistic ones do go to charities.
I never go to win a trophy I could care less but I do get a kick out of these types of shows that have rows and rows of Muscle cars, Mustangs, and SBC powered stuff that frequents these types of shows to the point of being bland....then I roll in with a Hudson BOOM showstopper!
"What's that?!" ....great educational experience for the public. ...and it's mean to admit but gives me a chuckle when the muscle car guys get upset because no one is lookin at their cars. (Esp the guys that bought em already restored) My apologies Lance if you didn't want this thread to go in that direction.0 -
At the end of the Day its about being seen, prizes or not and the fun of driving back and forward and watching people getting whip lash as they swing there heads around to get a look, I am taking the coupe to the atuo electrian this week, but Iam doing on the way to work which means that my son will be with me and I have to drop him off at the bus stop where 50 or kids meet each day, I bet he will get a bit of kudos out of this, cant do his reputation any harm LOL
